Biennial MOT question

I have been told by a passing Snowbird that as his van was over 20 years old, he only needs to test it every 2 years.
He says he was told this by the testing mechanic and he dated the mot for 2 years.
Apparently it is not publicised as it is an earner for the government. Hmmmm! Nothing on gov.uk website about it.
I did not see the Mot cert but he was adamant.
My 20 year old van passed earlier this year but only 1 year test.
I know Spain has recently changed to this but can anyone confirm if UK are doing this also?
He was a bit of a waffler anyway...

As far as I can see the only exempt vehicles have to be over 40 years old. There was a proposal for a roadworthiness test for these vehicles every two years.

You should have asked to have a look a his mot cert as you have never seen one. He should have had it with him.

Perhaps the sun has got to him or he's been talking to too many expert's, which some times can be difficult due to the amount of alcohol wh8cu can be involved.

At best he's a little confused.

You dont get a MOT cert anymore ...it's all online .

What you actually get is pretty much just a receipt for your mot pass

Yes you do. Read what it says on the top, and if abroad like the OP then you should have it with you.
