Looking at coming back through Perpignan but is Clermont-Ferrand or Toulouse Limoges the best way. Is it best to avoid Paris :scared: or not. We try to avoid the Peage in France but if we have to then thats Ok.

We usually come back via places we want to see and also follow the best weather, as for Paris it is always worth avoiding, we never use French toll roads

Don't think there is a best way, pass through lovely countryside both ways. Barring the Millau bridge the A75 is free. If you have time, theres nice routes in between the A75 and A20, or perhaps a mixture.
Say, A75, then cut up through the Volcanoes Auvergne region, beautiful area, which outside of one or two touristy hotspots is virtually empty.

Like other comments we avoid Paris and follow the weather. Also depends where you start from in Spain. If north west we enter France at Irun overnight at Sare then up to vineyard at Blaye , N10 through Angoulême onto Azay le Rideau or Chateaudun or Bonneval. Then around Rouen to Montreuil sur Mer before eurotunnel. Stops are mostly free. FFrom the east of Spain it’s a choice of the route via Millau on A75 via Clermont Ferrand or Carcassonne, Toulouse, Brive La Gaillarde then Azay etc. These are the main routes we take but depends on weather and whether we decide to explore and go off track eg south of Brive there is a beautiful medieval village called Autoire with an aire for €4 a night.

Calais to the Mediterranean avoiding tolls

Try this website if you are going to Calais

I normally use Caen so have a route through Andorra (nice hills), Toulouse, (avoid tolls to Montauban and Cahors) Motorway towards Limoges free a bit further north.. Then Limoges, Poitiers, Nantes, Rouen, Caen. Mostly nice but interesting roads. Not a main tourist route, plenty of Aires to choose from.

If you have to route from Perpignan, take the road to Nerac, then Toulouse or up to Clermont and across to Limoges

We did the N10 and down to Bordeau last year and will go down the same way again. Chateadun is a nice stop but we just fancied something different on the way back. We enjoyed Kiko Park near Olivia last year and were a bit disappointed when we wanted to stay for 7 nights as it meant moving 3 times so booked a couple of weeks with M&CC. Cheaper than booking directly online. We have an ACSI card but you cannot book using that. Rest we make up as we go along. Will look at your suggested routes .. Thankyou

If you're looking for a spectacular diversion try the D117 Wine Route between Perpignan and Foix, the scenery is stunning.
