Best time to sell a van

When there is a buyer in front of you with money in their hand.:cool:

It's the same as the reverse what's the best time to buy & from what I've found there isn't a time it is more like when do people have the cash to spend. Even then you would think with the recession that luxury items like motorhomes would be difficult to sell but it doesn't always seem to be the case.

If anything I think the price & type of motorhome can be important as to when to sell, your Kontiki is a family van so spring early summer then families might be looking to buy, our last van was a large A class & that sold in November to a guy that didn't use it for almost a year afterwards.

If you are thinking of selling then stick on some of the free websites to get any interest. If you do make a note of which ones you put it on, I am still getting emails for a van I sold nearly 2 years ago & I can't find which website it's on

Thanks
We would be looking to sell in the Autumn after trips to Europe but wondering if its worth keeping to spring to get a better price.

When we bought it was after a camping trip in July, we had been chatting with people on the campsite in France who had MH's so came back with the bug. But is that normal or as you say do people buy them in spring with the idea of going on holiday the same year ??

whats the one thing most folks do when on hols? yep they have a wander round thinkin' would'nt mind livin' here etc etc lookin' in estate agents etc so i would opt for selling a van in the same fashion i.e. main hols season:)

Hi, From a financial aspect, the best time to sell a van is in the spring. According to my local wheeler & dealer. However
the very worstest time to sell it is probably 10 minutes after its gone !

It`s swings and roundabouts really.

You will get a better deal when you are buying if you wait until the back end of the year. The dealers want to make room for new stock. The trouble is that they will not give the best part ex price then.

In the Spring, you should sell your van easier but the bargains may not be there.

I can only tell you how it worked for me, we used Ebay twice plus 2 of the free sites and MMM plus Hambleton Eng (hymer specialist) and we started advertising it about July last year for £49,950 (Hymer S820 02'reg) which I think was about right. Absolutely nothing except chancers on Ebay, these 'we buy your van' people in the back of MMM were offering about £35k. Anyway, someone had kept the ad from Ebay and we sold it eventually in November for £40k (plus the reg for £2k), I figured if no-one wanted it at £49k then by next year after another winter and another year older it would advertise for £45k and I'd have to haggle so I took the bird in the hand approach and I think I did the right thing. I think one bidder is worth a thousand lookers. Ironically I have been looking ever sincle for another van I like.:(:( I should add that there were 2 other S820's for sale at the time,1 older but £5k more and 1 newer at £10k more , they are both still for sale!

Yep that's true. Something is only worth what some will pay, irrespective of what you [we] think. Supply and demand rules.

very few people have the cash to buy an item like a motor home that's why the stealers can ring the bell by financing you up,but you have it stuck up you for far more than it's worth no matter how much you try to convince yourself you got a deal, anyone with cash these day's (if you can prove where it's from:eek:)can get a right bargain.
a customer of mine as just blown 18 grand in as many month's selling back to the same stealer he got it off, bit dear for 2 trip's to france and once to skeggy.
:Dgot a load of extra's off him though:eek::D:D

£18,000 lost !

 £18000 loss, jees they could have bought 2 of my freehold houses here in Bulgaria and had enough over for fifteen return flights ! compare that to 2 trips to France and Skegi ???!! At least you can live in mine or pass them on to your family,i feel for them as they have nothing to show for it.....

that's on the sale price it's not counting all he spent on the van in extra's e.g.
tow bar,a frame and ford ka,safari room, saterlite dish set up,reversing camara, two mountain bike's,back box ,top box ect ect but it gave him lot to talk about for a year :D
p.s. he though a 140 grand pay out would last for ever :rolleyes:like they say a fool and his money;)

I advertised in the MCC monthly mag (free for members) had about 4 phone calls in total & the first to see it bought it. It was a bargain but I made a good profit (only vehicle I have ever made money on ) & I had 18 months use out of it. Bought it from Germany, but that was before the pound nosedived against the euro. Thought I'd found an easy way to make money & always have anew motorhome.

It is a bit of luck if you can sell, even if the price is right you still have to find the buyer who wants it.
