What's the best SatNav to buy. Travelling in GB and Europe, not interested in Snooper type.

I had a Pronav (one of the truck ones) but changed it recently for a tom tom so i could have the poi's on it. The Pronav did not support them.
I really like the tomtom.

Put a post on for the attention of fairytooth, he has a few reconditioned tomtom satnavs, some of us members have brought them from him with full up to the minute upgrades. Good to deal with he will even look after it for you when you want updating.

John.

Fairytooth has been brilliant with me for sending my Tom Tom to France and for giving me advice on how to use it. bambi 2

OK, I'll admit I'm biased in favour of TomTom after trying quite a few different makes. It does depend what exactly your needs are. Garmin for example are great for hiking and off roading but you can't beat TomTom, especially the slightly older models, for our style of getting from A to B.

Let me know if you want any help narrowing down the choices. I do try to keep a couple for sale but I don't like doing a sales pitch.

And thanks for the recommendations guys!

Listen to the advice this man can and does .....

I did a lot of research the tail end of last year. In the end I decided on a Garmin sat nav - a nuvi 1490T. It's got a 5" touchscreen and comes with free lifetime european mapping and lifetime travel alerts. It's got bluetooth so you can use your phone if that's your thing. You can store loads of POI's on it directly, including of course canalmans wildcamping poi's  It's got loads of stuff but best of all for me you can switch modes to pedestrian or bicycle. I payed £120 for it in Maplins sale but you can get it for similar price or even lower now.

I've tried Garmin but am now on my 4th. TomTom which I swear by. I have IQ Live which automatically diverts me away from traffic problems as well as holding loads of POI's. It is difficult though to obey the bitch in the machine though when you know she is not taking the normal route. It is only when you hit the back of the queue that you know she was talking sense, fortunately she's not like the wife and tells you she "told you so".
