It depends what your needs are. We are with Safeguard - have been for over ten years - because they not only offer good rates but the cover includes 12 months in Europe with free breakdown recovery. We spend much of each year on the continent and most other insurers only offer 6 months or less. Incidentally, the premium we are currently paying is virtually the same as it was ten years ago, so we are very happy with them.

insurance

We were with Safeguard for 2/3 years but in June changed to Saga as a good bit cheaper (about £160 I think) and we can pay about £65 to increase our AA membership to Europe the next time we go abroad.
The only thing is you have to be over 55!

I think the last two replies prove that it is best to do your own research - we regularly check with Saga and in only one year were they cheaper than Safeguard for us (by about £10). Every other year they have come out more expensive and don't offer the length of European cover we need. Everybody has different requirements so this is a subject where you will undoubtedly get lots of conflicting advice. Happy travels.

you can only recommend from your personal experience but one company might be bad for one and good for another, try one of those compairson sites and see what they provide.

I've just taken out a policy on our 1975 VW Bay with Adrian Flux. As it's a classic (elderly!) vehicle I wasn't able to get a quote from lots of insurers. It was such a good quote that I insured my old Beetle and my new(ish) Audi A4 as well as they were all due on the same day.

For the three vehicles, I paid £496 which is a lot less than I paid last year for the Audi and the Camper!

As someone said further up, shop around and know what cover you need :)

I'm a very happy camper, off to Caldicot tomorrow morning for Dubs in the Castle :D

I tend to shop around each year as my insurance becomes due, as many companies appear to offer better deals to attract a new client than to keep an existing one.

Having said that I have been with Insurance Choice for the past two years and this year they've come up with the best deal again, so third year on the trot! Frank Pickles and Shield also offered decent quotes.

Mine is a self-built conversion so many Companies will not quote at all.

Just renewed from Adrian Flux to Comfort insurance. Difference was £239.00 without increasing the excess.
Was average £50-£70 cheaper than all the others, so well pleased. That included occational trade use and the wife on the policy :D

CC

I took mine out with the Caravan Club for £169 plus £30 joining fee, it was the cheapest around and mine is a self build!
So I get cheap insurance plus the bonus of many camp sites and services of the CC!

Off the top of my head I cannot remember who I am with, but at the last renewal I checked around and Saga appeared to be the cheapest. I went back to my company and told them what Saga had quoted and they matched it.

I use Pete Best.
As my Fiat is a 1987 they put in on a classic policy, 3000 miles a year ( you can increase this), Full European cover and breakdown with recovery, fully comp two drivers £116
