Best area of England for wild camping east of Devon?

We are planning yet another trip to Devon and Cornwall as this is familiar territory for us and well in our comfort zone. Wales and Scotland are also in our comfort zone.

Strange but true we have never explored the rest of England outside Devon and Cornwall in the MH as we sense it is overpopulated and wild camping could be stressful. OK we could tour around stopping on sites but we prefer the freedom to park up next to a good view or somewhere convenient for a town visit.

We only wild camp off peak in the UK normally October through to May as we find that during the holiday season everywhere touristy is way too busy for easy daytime parking and narrow lane touring.

Where are the best areas of England for wilding it during these off peak months excluding Devon and Cornwall? With plenty of off site parking, water stops and convenient cassette emptying facilities without being hassled by locals or traffic wardens.

We have just been sitting thinking of a Plan B for next year if ****** goes tits up.

We started off in Cleethorpe and worked our way slowly round the coast clockwise thinking of all the places we have found over the last few years. It’s surprising where you can stop for the night. We even managed a couple of weeks on the South Coast without using a campsite. It was quite good fun really. Trying to find toilets and places to overnight. We even managed a trip to Rick Steins and parked outside. Then had a cheeky night where we parked.

Just spend some time exploring the POIs..
You'll be amazed by where you can safely and legally stay.... Plus toilet and tap locations.

Go North or Wales

Less traffic
More countryside
More WC spots
More good pubs
Cheaper everything

I know I live in the South-East...nothing !

Just MO

I agree with PaulJenny, spend some time just looking through POIs. It's so much fun and a great way to waste time! I love the north, anywhere near Kendal or the North Yorks Moors. Lots of people have advised me to go to Avebury, but I haven't been myself. Herefordshire is my fave part of England - stunning.

I had a very fine month in East Anglia. Wonderful fens, and superb north coast. Several RSPB places and NT (so free parking for the day if you are a member, sometimes an overnight is possible). I used some POI's but also spotted many places myself. I only have a very small van so I don't send the places to Admin because they will probably not be suitable for all. I was there in August/September and there was no problem with crowds, it felt very wild and cut off. Just Avoid Cromer and Great Yarmouth.
