https://ibb.co/album/TM5zZh In our early days of travel to Spain we used to use a Campsite at Benicassim, Camping Azahar, typical Spanish site basic ,clean, good facilities and friendly, Every year there they have a Festival of Saint Antonio, it is mid February, and a great week or so, they build a Bull ring in the town and the brave get in it with the Bulls and goad them and get chased good fun no Bulls are killed but they sure do get mad, there are parades and blessings at the Church for the animals and one of the days it is the turn of the Motorbikes, hundreds of Harleys turn up in the town and get blessed at the Church as the ride by, the pillion on the bike carries a large lit candle as part of the show. there is a huge Motorbike gathering and camp out at a near by venue.
One of the days is Paella day, the town is closed off , sand and firewood is dropped off all the way down main street and Paella pans and stands too,the local families all turn up and drink wine and cook their Paella, the Campsite also has a massive Paella cook out in the town and all campers are invited free to the fun and feast, great day very smokey and vibrant, music dancing and fireworks break out too. As you wander up and down the streets the locals offer you food and wine, the Spanish are sooooo friendly, Next day you would not believe it had all happened as the streets are back to normal.
One morning of the Fiesta, is breakfast day , it is held near the Railway station, fires are lit all over and folks line up for free bread and sausages Spanish style, you are given a straw hat [ varies ] and then proceed to the fires to cook your sausages etc and eat them with your bread , free wine and beer is on tap all day, and a great atmosphere ensues. with music and dancing too.
Then there is Beef Stew night, traditionally the Bulls were killed, [ no more thankfully ] and the fresh meat was made into a massive stew, and fed to all, now they still carry on the tradition , so just turn up get your stew and bread and wine and join the fun, more fireworks and music etc.
There are more parades daily , horses carts animals etc , the whole Fiesta calculates in a huge Firework display that blows your mind so loud are the bangs, great.
There is a Monastry at the top of town that makes wine and you can have a tour round, good to see, Benicassim is a great town, all the shops you need, weekly markets super prom, and beaches, 2 campsites , we Wild camped there recently but that is fluid and changes but very good when you can, there is an Aire at the town but small but good to service your van, when we used the campsite they ran coach trips to Valencia which was a good day out, there is plenty of walking and a disused railway line there with walks to the next town etc, we went on a few organised walk a few times up into the Mountains which was very good. In the early days the Camping Azar had a camp commandant, his nick name was Herr flick, Hitler and Herr Git amongst others, he was a real pain, Mr Marmite was another of his names, they had a weird system with the hook ups, Herr Flick HAD to connect your cable, he put a barrel fuse in the connection 4 ,6 or 10 amps depending on what you paid for, if you were in his good books you got a 10 amp fuse anyway, BUT if you blew your hook up you had to go and see him to get reconnected woe betide you if you did it twice, he would make you wait hours before he would attend to you hee hee. Happy days, we had great street parties for Christmas day and New Years day with swims in the sea for the brave, there is a very popular bar in the site and we partied there Christmas and New Years too.

One of our favorite places.Stopped at bonterra a couple times but now prefer camping tauro ,they give a better discount than acsi if you show your C&CC card.I,ve still got the key for their bottom gate in the camper, forgot to hand it in a couple years back, oops .

talking of keys, you needed a key to get into Azahar after 11 PM, we did not know this at first and when we returned to the site about 1 AM one morning we could not get in, we had to ring the bell and get Herr Git out of bed, he was not best pleased , there were 6 of us and he was refusing to let us in, well this went on for about 20 minutes until he saw that he was getting into trouble , he let us in, next morning I went to Reception and spoke to our friend from the incident apologised for not knowing about the key and not having, one NO PROBLEM he said and that was that , different story when no iron gates separated us all hee hee.
