Bear Attack in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada .

These are pictures of an actual polar bear attack.

The pictures were taken while people watched and could do nothing to stop the attack!

Reports from the local newspaper say that the victim will make a full recovery.

To counterbalance....May- July 2008 we were staying with our daughter & her husband in Corvallis, Oregon and travelled with them in their RV. around Oregon, Washington & California.
This also meant staying in campgrounds in the Cascades so it was a shock hearing this one morning on the radio..

The guy was lucky,mind you my sympathies lie with the bear,id be angry too if someone shot me.

Dont know if you are aware but there are brown bears in the Pyrenees. A load were introduced to prop up the indiginous bears who all but died off. One of them called Franska has gone mental and just kills stuff for fun. The locals have protested and we saw some anti bear graffiti the other day. They havent started eating tourists yet but I was a bit nervous the other day when camping high up in the mountains on our own going out for a fag in the middle of the night here -

Mentined earlier our time in Oregon.
It was a surprise at our first campground in bear country to see massive steel safes at each RV. station, some heavily clawed....these were food safes.
My wife and daughter were handed an official list of Don'ts to prevent attacting bears.
Don't wash too often
Don't use scented soaps or perfume
Don't wear lipstick
Don't use hair sprays
and so it went on...
