You are correct ..... no issues.

It won,t do much towards back filling you might have meant backfeeding. But you,ll have a useable system drawing from the bbq point.

The gas industry frowns upon this practice for the official line, Personally I see no problem

Only solution if you are near empty

In Morocco in particular.
Also Finland

I prefer to avoid but in an emergency ?

I have never needed to do it, but would have no hesitation if I needed the gas!

A few of the lads were doing it in Morocco, I didn’t as I don’t have a bbq point.

I used a Gaslow hose that fed into the exterior filler point.

The gas industry would frown at anything that stops them making a packet out of it.

The only problem that I can see is that the feed from the exterior bottle is the MALE end of the quick release fitting and if this came adrift or was tampered with you would have a pressurized release of gas from the bottle. Having said that I use the facility as and when, or did before I got refillables.

I have a bulk tank so with the tank turned off I have used the BBQ point several times with a bottle, I even did it at home two weeks ago because I am running the fridge on gas at the moment, it ran fine until I drove off to fill up yesterday

Hi Gang,
Genuine question just to make sure I understand what you’re on about!.

Do you mean if you’re low on your ‘Refillable Bottle’ turn it off & Plug a Doner bottle via a suitable Regulator into the BBQ point ?.

If so, Why not do what I do & just take the Regulator off of the ‘Refillable Bottle’ & Connect it to the Doner bottle in the usual way as if you was changing Bottles ?.

OR when you say ‘Back Filling’ are you on about ‘RE FILLING’ the Re Fillable bottle from a Doner Bottle via the BBQ point !,,,,

You can refill the refillable bottles only at the fill point by connecting any gas bottle but it must be upsidedown and higher than the bottles or tank you are filling in the van.
Trying to fill at the barby point is bypassing the safety cut of valve & trying to go back through the regulator.

I wouldn’t even try & re fill my Refillable bottle via the BBQ point, That’s why I asked to make sure Matey,

I ‘May’ have tried Re Filling my Refillable in some other way a Few years ago,,,!.
But TBH in my view it’s Dangerous, A Pain & Just to much hassle,,,,Go to a Proper revfill point.

A bottle mounted regulator costs about £7, so not worth the bother of chopping and changing regulators.

Plus .... this method is more likely to be used abroad, so the fittings will be different on foreign bottles.

Yep, Understand that,,,I didn’t realise the OP was on about use abroad, must have missed that somewhere, (Although if that’s the case wouldn’t they STILL have to buy Not only a Bottle But a Regulator, Pipe Tail & BBQ fitting as well !).
My Regulator Just unscrewes From my 22lt Refillable bottle & Screews into my 6KG Emergency (OR 13KG) Calor Bottle in the normal way !

I had to do this at the beginning of this month, it was late on Saturday afternoon at Shell Island, I didn't realise I was so low on gas and ran out, there are no autogas stations nearby that i could guarantee would be open, so I hired a bottle from the site shop, 5 quid (50 quid deposit), bought a regulator for 10 quid and used the gas tube off the BBQ. Turned my bottle off so it didn't try to refill it every thing worked fine, So it cost me 15 quid for the night, but we were warm, cooked tea and a hot shower.

As for Vindiboy's concern, if it is disconnected the gas escapes at the regulated pressure not full bottle pressure and I did not leave it out overnight because if someone did disconnect it and steal I would be 50 quid out of pocket.

Yes.
When my van's fixed regulator partially failed, would only allow a small gas flow, I used a regulated gas bottle feeding into the BBQ point when I need shower and gas fire until I replaced the fixed regulator.

hey thanks all for replies. Yes only to use the gas direct. Would turn off refillable system. I already have bullfinch bbq thingy and pipe, all then I would need is a regulator and bottle. Uk no issues I have everything but abroad in France I am assuming a blue butane regulator would fit onto a French propane bottle. Not done it yet but I was getting low on Gas last month (just unlucky finding LPG at the time) and I was considering options available.

My motorhome has 2 6kg bottles which is poxy for 6 months away in spain so i turn them off and run a spainish bottle and regulator through the bbq point, i have done this for many years without any problems in fact its hooked up at the moment
