Battery Problems

Hi,

My problem is with a 1992 2.5 Fiat Ducatto globetrotter: If I use the leisure battery at all, the engine battery also drains. Anyone any ideas? Thanks

Sounds as though the two batteries are connected together all the time. Usually a 'split charge relay' prevents this but some older vans such as 87 Pilote had a switch that you have to operate manually.

Has to be a switch somewhere to seperate the two systems. Mine is a manual switch, on when travelling to charge up, off when static to save leisure battery from flattening the starter battery.
Son in law's is an electronic switch on the control panel.

There is a relay next to your leisure battery which should be replaced.
I think it is a 4 plug. Anyway a common relay.

Sounds like your split charge relay has stuck in the 'charging' position, so it's ALWAYS connected to the engine battery.

Follow the main pos(+) red cable back from the lesuire battery to the first switch/relay.

Could it be that one of the batteries is duff it could pull the other one down.:)
Have the batts tested may be a good idea.
