battery charge issue?

Recently fitted 2 extra batteries to MH, the original is perfect just wanted more for wilding. Charged it up on mains and left with 100% but got to destination and display said 75% ? Later found loose connection from original to 2 new batteries. However since drove home and fully charged all batteries, but display has a red light next to the battery symbol and a red question mark flashes too when we check battery level. Batteries seem good as MH on drive now and been ok since apart from these 2 lights....anyone any ideas? Manual not giving any clues.

Were the new batteries the same size in AH not physical? if they were larger, then they will not charge fully.

Was the existing one in perfect condition? if it's older it will discharge the newer ones.

What are these lights you refer to?

Do you have a digital volt meter to check the voltage on the batteries.

The lights are on the display panel above the entrance door. It is where it shows water levels and battery levels, suppose unless you've got an adria 660sp you won't know what light means what....the manual shows a completely different display panel. New batteries are smaller in AH than original, need new volt meter, just wondered a) why would they be 25% lower in charge after 3 hour drive and b) what the lights mean.

If the display is the usual traffic light arrangement then they don't usually tell you anything useful at all.

Only way to tell what might be the problem is to disconnect a lead from all the batteries (taking the negative one off is usually the safest) and let them sit for a few hours and then measure the open circuit voltage of each battery. Then, provided you tell us what type of each battery is, we can get reasonably close to estimating how fully charged each battery is.

You don't really say that the new batteries are the same generic type as the old one - and how old the old one is. All good info to have before trying to help.
If you haven't got a digital multimeter, now might be the time to spend a few quid on a medium quality one.

BTW - connecting same type but different Ah ratings doesn't usually matter.
