Had a wee break in the CCC site in Dunbar and took some shots of the Barns Ness lighthouse.
We love the walk to Skateraw, then back along the cycle path to the campsite.
The last shot was taken from the campsite. You can see the Bass rock to the right.

While shallow around there, there are a few wrecks around the light. I wonder what the timbers are from?

I don’t know what it is Terry, but I think it was washed up recently.
That looks interesting Bill, I wonder if part remains of a wreck? I notice what looks like steel fixings on the right of image, been a good while since last at the light area, is image looking at the light with Skateraw behind you? I’ll ask my pal who resides Dunbar to take look and report back.

Cracking photos Bill. Not been up that way myself either for a long time. We almost went up to St Abbs earlier in the year but then swapping vans got in the way. Used to love it up there many moons ago.

Image Bill posted showing what looked like to me the remains of a wooden wreck, a quick google gave me the following info, see C&P below.

Barns Ness Lighthouse and keepers’ cottages
Not much further along the shore from the photo above, you will find a wrecked barge – photo below. The barge was used by the navy during WW2 for target practice and it was much larger than what remains now. You can see a large metal ring attached to the right of the barge and this was used to tow the barge into position for the navy to shell it. Much of the wood has rotted away but the solid iron rivets remain in place. Above the barge and to the right of the photo, you can see Torness Power Station. There is a stretch of beach to the right of the photo and this is often visited by oystercatchers, dunlin, turnstones and the occasional curlew. This is a popular walking area and part of this blog post (good photos) shows the walk from Barns Ness to the power station and beyond. On a cold sunny day like this, you can enjoy the benefits of the outdoors at Barns Ness.
