Hi, Just got back from a few days in Barmouth & Whitchurch area.
Sat night we stayed on marine parade at Barmouth - as you face the sea we drove as far to the right as possible, small kiosk & car park. We, with others parked in the road, no charge, & no noise - good night.

Monday in Whitchurch by the canal - Viking Afloat is on the ring rd where the A525 meets the A41.Its main function is canal boat hire, but it also has a small camp site £10 includes electrics, water, toilets, etc. Nice walk into Whitchurch

Hi,
Viking afloat is just part of a large co, however the local Whitchurch site No is 01948 662012.

Hi,
I do not know of other sites associated with this group, But,
logic dictates "as the maths teacher at my old Alma mater used to say" that any hire boat business must have parking, because the clientel are away for a week or two at time and have usually arrived in a vehicle. Grindley brook wharf ( same area) & the horse & jockey in Grindley brook also have campsites by the canal. Hope this helps.

Another possible Whitchurch stopover "Willey Moor" Pub on the side of the canal north of the town on the A49. They have a huge hardstanding carpark, off the road, could be worth asking the landlord if after a bite to eat?

Happy Camping:)

Barmouth - Sept 2010

Hi
We were a bit worried when we read some of the comments that people had posted about Barmouth.
We stayed there for one night during our recent trip to Wales, we stayed in the car park near the boat yard, and we had no problems at all, very quiet

As with most tourist places during high season you need to be sensitive where you stay. Barmouth is pretty motorhome friendly, but the massive car park by the beach is a bigg no no during high season, yet when quiet you can stay there no problem. A bit of common sense goes a long way as you found out!

At the end of the day without the tourists, half the shops in Barmouth would shut!

I don't think the Willey Moor Lock Tavern will allow overnighters. They gave us a very positive NO when we asked about 3 years back whether my son could leave his car there for 2 or 3 hours to cruise on the boat with us a short way. He offered to pay but they politely told him to get lost.

I would recommend phoning them first just in case the answer is no.
