There is a very interesting thread in motorhomecraic in their motorhome chat section entitled 'Disappointing Headline'.
In it one of their members responds to the bad press in Killarney newspaper, resulting in the newspaper publishing the motorhomers side of the story.
Maybe we should start writing en masse to the papers that publish the bad press....just a thought...

Well it worked with the C&CC magazine.

I did so when the CCC published a letter basically tearing strips of us, and many of their members. I first wrote to complain, and included my phone number. Well about an hour later my phone rang, and I was asked to write another letter for their letters section, and was promised it would be published. Not only did they publish my letter but another one having a go at the editors comment after the anti WC letter. They even did an article on parking your Motorhome, possibly they realised that publishing a letter from someone who obviously dislikes us, then supporting it with editors comments was a bad idea. After all a large chunk of their members WC. Here’s hoping the coffee has been smelt, and the other mob get the message also. The days of caravans monopolising the big two are over, and simply changing you’re name simply won’t hack it.

I've dreamed of pigs flying too.

I both suggest and suspect that NOW, following recent press (based on Wild Tenting), use of our preferred term of "wildcamping" has an immediate negative impression. Impressions are often more important than facts !
Following discussion on another thread I appreciate that most want to keep the name wildcamping for the website.
Fine but let us be careful in what terms we use as we try to improve our image and the situation !

Campsites often complain about us not staying at their sites but they never say that people staying in self catering cottages should stay at campsites instead.
When you think about it a motorhome is a self catering cottage on wheels and therefore has absolutely no need or obligation to stay on a campsite!

I dont camp with my van,i do sleep in it when tired of driving to long.
Just being a law abiding citizen as it is against the law to drive whilst tired.
And if the police were to ask you to move on then they are encouraging you not only to break the law, but also putting your life and the life of other road users in danger

Thats because they cannot use the argument that you are a freeloader.
You are paying for the cottage.
In their minds you in a van are a freeloader, end of.
This attitude is substantiated by the media.

I do not like posts 9 & 10..
If you were in say a car park which was earmarked for possible development for "overnighting" and approached for a sensible discussion by a local stakeholder/councillor or the like and responded " not camping but have to rest" they would probably conclusde you were splitting hairs and it would create the wrong impression.
Too many mixed overlapping and unclear terms
Parking (Geeky Philip has suggested that implies leaving the vehicle)
Overnighting ..OK but this probably includes cooking eating and sleeping...in a bed
NOT Camping I agree no as no kit out and 1 night only

I think we do ourselves no favours in promoting posts 9 &10 just likely to antagonise !
Nitpicking at the police were in the Buttermere thread

Just my thoughts and accept I may be in a minority of 1 !

But I paid a fortune for my van!!
Maybe a second home on wheels then 😎

I am a convert debroos.
Devils advocate and all that.

When dealing with the great uninformed don’t quote facts.
Facts are their enemy, stick to sound bites, and innuendo,
they just love that. ;)

Can't wait for your innuendo suggestions...😳
