We needed a back Box for the Motor Home. When I saw the price of the Fiamma boxes I needed a Brandy to recover.
So, I have just been o B&Q and bought a garden box £35. These are really very sturdy things. You can sit on them, they fit on the bike rack perfect but I think I will have to line the bottom with Ply but the rest of the construction is good. It might be worth having at look at.

Don’t forget the further you get from the back axle the heavier things get. Have you been down a Weigh Bridge lately ;)

Hey PJ,
Yeah I think that if you’re only putting light bulky stuff in them, or things like Chairs n Hosepipes I recon there’s a definite argument for using them,
When I looked at them though I really thought they was hard to make secure !. But I’m sure a bit of plywood & a few locks would sort that out easily enough,,,
I went for the Fiamma box in the end, but it’s certainly nothing special for the price.

Lockable Plastic Storage Boxes | Heavy Duty | Solent Plastics

The weight considerations are valid.

My use would be for light or awkward or items which would benefit from being more accessible.
Eg small odds and ends, lightweight small table, hose, watering can (MT) MT suitcase short EHU cable.

Not forgetting the shotgun for those with noisy generators !

Back Box

The box itself weighs 5 kilos, as we collect clocks and bits and bobs from Brocantes in France the maximum weight would be about 35 kilos most of it would be packing ie bubble wrap and empty boxes. As the bike rack says it can take up to 65 kilos I don't think there should be a problem. I intend to ply the bottom to make it stronger and drill through the existing holes on the rails for the bikes to bolt it on. Then finally a ratchet strap through the whole lot. It seems a perfect cheap solution for our needs.
