Can anybody tell me am I allowed drive a Ford Transit Autosleeper Rienza on a B1 licence???

All about MAM or gross weight if you like. If you passed your test before 1997 you can go up to 7.5 ton and after that you’re stuck with 3.5.

Cheers

Watch out for renewal when you are 70. The delay may make you take a medical and if you fail you are limited to 3.5

Thanks for the info. Im already over 70 and it appears C1 licence was removed then. Would I be allowed to take a medical or would I need to sit a test also????

I reached 70 and renewed my licence. Did not at the time realise about c1. D1. When I realised I applied to get my d1 back. As we had just got a 4.25 Moho. Dvla said medical. I took medical. Dvla told me because of heart/ blood/ asthma /copd that they would not grant me a renewal of d1. So. By by Moho. 3 months we had it. Had just spent £5000 on it We then got a 3.5 ton Moho. We are now in the process of saving and having soon additions to it
Snowflake. Aka brian

Thanks for sharing you experience. The Autosleeper Rienza MAM is just on the 3.5ton mark. Just hoping to avoid the problems you have had if I go ahead. Thanks again

out of curiosity, have you retained the "B+E" category? Just wondering as just like the C1 and D1, the Towing entilement was automatically granted back in the day and thinking maybe that goes away like the others?

You may not be able to carry anything more than a box of cornflakes or you will be over weight.

I had a Rienza for a few years. 3500kg max weight. I was quite particular in getting weighed every so often. Our version circa 2006/7 was a two berth so the over cab is were we kept the bedding. Overloading was never an issue ( two bikes on the back) never filled half of the storage available. Always well under 3500. Great van. Have look on autosleeperowners-forum.com Search for Rienza so you know where the most common locations for damp are.

Thanks for that very helpful.

I assume from your first post you are buying or contemplating a Rienza. Don't let my comment on dampness put you off as many vans have dampness at some point.
Mine had a damp reading, although not serious, around the vertical joint at the rear corner (nearside) which was cured by resealing. Another poster had damp in the rear nearside but seems to have been around the locker door. Worth checking for peace of mind. Probably coincidence that both were in that corner.
Aside from that our van was mechanically sound as were the appliances. Really enjoyed ours.

Thanks for that Davy, Yea I am in the early stages of considering buying one. Any info I can get at this stage is helpful, so thanks for that.

I always wonder about the US RVs as that need Cover 7500kg or C1 under but a D driver of coaches, cannot drive one, but they are coaches without seats. They need to do full c licence on a completely different type of truck with all the loading and other regulations.
