Hi, well I picked up the Hymer from Fiats, and off to france the next day, We booked with P&O, as Norfolk wanted £101 one way and P&O only £68, I found out later that sea france would of asked only £26.
Anyway due to high winds the ferries had stopped running and the police had stopped all HGV,s heading for dover and parked them up on the M20, It took us 3 hours just to get to dover from the M25 due to the main roads being closed and used as parking spaces for trucks, Anyway getting to the port we find the ferries running, but no one interested in checking pass ports etc, just get on the boat. All in all there were only 44 people on board, On the frence side, no customs, no police, no anybody.
I pushed on a bit then it was time to park up. I find the Hymer not so good to drive, and the fiat switch gear no way as good as the ford, But the engine was willing. But the big pain was the gear stick that keeps digging into my knee. Anyway it was time to test out the cooking, and seating and heating, and the bed. After taking in a film on the TV, the curry was readly and it was nice to be able to just sit and eat at a fixed table. I found the heating to be good, nice and warm, but wonder how much gas was being used. I will be fitting my esbspacher central heating system later in the year, as this is a great system. So to bed, well let me tell you sad to say we have two pug dogs and when its cold they sleep on the bed, and this night found us all in or on the bed, and yes I did get a good nights sleep. A few things I miss was the remote control for the heater, its not nice having to wait for hot water and things to warm up on a cold morning. We are going to push on into spain, when I have sorted out a few jobs on the house and fitted the outside locks to the hymers doors. All in all not a bad start.
