Availability of diesel in Europe in the coming months

If I were travelling I would be scouting for fuel before it got to 1/2 tank, 92 litres tank full.

Edit: I should add, being a bit OCD and anal about things, I know exactly what my fuel consumption is and therefore how far each litre takes me 6.5 miles (29.5mpg). Slightly less in the lumpy bits, more on the flat.

We are on night 6 of our France travels. We have been travelling slow, so still only 100km from Dunkirk. The longest drive so far has been from home in Camberley to Dover. Not had any need to refuel and still on 3/4 of a tank. We should have been in Lille but now parked outside a MH dealer in Seclin hoping that they can fix our fridge in the the morning.

Over the past few weeks we have driven (and taken ferries!) from Aberdeen to Norway. Never came across any shortages at all. Prices are high but strangely enough far cheaper here in Norway than at home, generally working out at around £1.50 to £1.60/litre here! I understand that the Norwegian government have reduced tax on fuel for the duration.

You get a discount Tony, as you helped find the stuff :ROFLMAO:

I was watching sky news and they showed a chart of UK refineries. Good few have closed and not replaced and the ones left mainly do petrol. So we are making more than enough petrol but need to import diesel. Not sure about Europe but im guessing they are wiser than us but who knows.
Thats not how it works. You get a barrel.of crude oil and by refining it, you split off all the different components: tar, heavy oil, light oil, diesel, petrol, and various light fuels.
There is a tiny margin for varying the proportions, but only by an insignificant amount.
The reason for importing diesel is that when prices rise, petrol sales fall fast. Diesel tends to be used for non-optional journeys, so demand stays high. This leads to spare petrol and shortages of diesel, and helps explain the price disparity.

Slight thread drift, but am I the only one finding premium petrol is unavailable at any moment or is it just a regional thing up here?

I want premium by choice for my classic car and OB motor, not because I need the higher octane, but premium unleaded is usually E5 where the normal is E10.

Yep outboard with carbs dont like e10, never leave any fuel in the carb and dump old fuel after 6 weeks, esp in damp cold weather, it sucks water into it big time.

6 weeks Trev?? Should be good for up to 6 months.

I've told you before, I've had petrol in an outboard tank for well over a year before now and it's been fine. Ok not the wisest thing to do maybe, but 6 weeks is just a tad overkill?

I should add, I tighten up the vent cap on the tank!
