Looked at data for new Autosleeper Nuevo ES. Its the best Tardis we can find that fits our drive. It has overcab bed space to use for storage...but its 3.005m high. What! Why 5mm over 3m when it could have been 5mm under (nobody would have noticed the difference) and thereby in theory avoided...category 3 prices on motorways..and eye watering prices for using Alpine tunnels...and slipped under 3m height barriers.

Has anyone got a short van over 3m and had any problems with such charges? In practice does the extra drag of the overcab significantly effect fuel consumption?

Having produced a van that high they then give it a low-line roof at the back...meaning reduced headroom, less cupboard space than previous models; kitchen cupboards, cooker and work-surfaces too low...whats the point!!!

I also wonder why when the rest of the market is removing timber from shell construction they doggedly persist in putting off customers with old technology...whilst at the same time ditching things that were good in their previous models...Arrrrgh!

Has anyone got a recent Nuevo and got any feedback / comments? Is it possible the fit a larger gas tank...it looked possible on the older version but I have my doubts about this one?

Yep the over Cab now looks bigger. We're 2.95m. 3.005m is ridiculous IMHO.

& then Marquis £57k -> 10yrs Finance end up Paying £85k WHAT !!!!!!

We'll be keeping our 2004 ES.

Chrz Mul.

Hi Molly
Yes, the 2013/14 model of EK had a higher roof, more spacious cupboards and a reasonable over cab cupboard if I remember rightly. It's later that they changed the design and started 'me-too' copying of everybody else's low-line designs and produced something with inadequate storage room...for us at least. However if I change van now I want the latest in engines to get some future-proofing against increasing 'Environment Zone' standards, I'm sure its only a matter of time before my Euro 4 will start getting into problems.

I would imagine you could also fit lowering springs to drop it 10-20mm without too much problem.

Does the height include the highest bit of roof furniture (probably the arial?)

Auto sleeper keep every thing below the highest point of the roof, From the ground you cannot see any roof lights etc.

Its so you can turn it upside down and use it to go sledging in Switzerland :lol-061:

We are slightly over 3M with the Tv Ariel on the roof. Never had a problem with tolls in France .. Just Class 2

Helen that is a superbly clean roof - I have roof envy!
(Im not sure whether to plant mine out or just mow it)

. According to the Manuel's the 2013 nuevo height is Ek 2875 ES 3005 ,the 2018 is exactly the same ,no over cab cupboard's on ek 2. small shelve either side of the front openings skylight .the heights are measured to the top AF TV Ariel.

The photo is nothing like a nuevo roof.

the purpose of the picture was to demonstrate that on a Nuevo (and all autosleeper coach builds) the highest point of the roof are the two 'rails' which run down either side everything sits in the channel between the two rails.

You certainly wouldnt mistake the roof in the picture for the roof of my Nuevo but my Nuevo like the M/h in the picture has the two rails and everything sits between them - the fire flue, the TV aerial the closed skylights (which are higher than the surrounding roof) nothing protrudes above the side rails

Yes that ridiculous sky light above the cab where a large locker used to be where are you now supposed to store the bedding?

Mine is a 2008 EK and design /practicality wise is far superior to the current model - with that stupid middle of the chassis grey water drain and fancy water inlet that you cant just pour water into and the cab sylight that makes it like driving a green house (and you have no where to store bedding)

.
Yep got to a agree, especially the water filler .I was told you can have a conventional filler fitted and the new vans come with both ,but unconfirmed, if I want to fill up guickly I fill up from the drain tap untill water comes out of the vent hole . I would also prefer an over cab locker instead of the stupid potentially leaky skylight .also the crank up skylight is a nightmare and brake for fun my van is on its 3rd .the hand brake is a nightmare unless you have arms like a gorilla.oh and the driver's seat is pain to rotate with the hand brake on. . baz

Nuevo EK

They say in their bumff that the new EK has the option of an overcab locker, but because of the 'lowline' design it must be a lot smaller. I've yet to see one like this because the dealers all seem to stock the big window version, but I doubt it will have room for two rolled up Duvelays, pillows, and a years supply of duty frees like the old version did. Hence our interest in the ES version. Although this seems to have about 100kg less payload. Perhaps without ordering the extra 2 belted seats, and leaving out the overcab mattress perhaps a bit could be clawed back...how much I've yet to discover. What I do like about it also is it gives a place up front for a bit of weight on the driving wheels...obviously only so much otherwise it might wobble a bit on bends!

I've never had a van with overcab bed...do they take much more fuel? And does it particularly affect stabilty?
