autosleeper mixed leisure batteries

Purchased a new autosleeper Ascot on a Ford Transit, looking into fitting solar panel and have noticed a 85amp hour battery and a 60amp hour battery fitted by Ford (as standard) All the new transit base Autosleepers have this and they advertise it as this as the two batteriesw link together to make 145amp hour. I have discovered that you are not suppposed to have batteries of different amp hour together according to the internet!! Can anyone advise - is this correct - is it dangerous - have autosleeper make a mistake - look forward to your comments.
Thanks

hi

Hi, its best if the batteries are the same rating and age. The thing is that the two batteries will take a charge at odds to each other and this can give a fault reading to the charger which may lead to one battery getting cooked.
They are just cost cutting, ask for battery's of the same rating

Good question Pands and well presented:rolleyes:, seems a bit odd to me and you,re right to be suspicious, but we have a few experts on this site when it comes to auto electrics and I,m sure we,ll get your answer shortly;):)

BTW welcome to the site:cool:

When my hubby was writing technical articles for one of the MH mags we did some research on charging and batteries as part of an article and went along to visit one of the electrical accessory specialist manufacturers. They distinctly told us that if fitting 2 leisure batteries it was very important that they were of the same type and size. Interestingly they also recommended wet batteries not gel - but that is always a moot point and not part of your question.

But suffice to say IMHO you should NOT be accepting two odd batteries to your van - the retailer should know better!!

Are these two batteries both leisure batteries? Or is one of them the main vehicle battery? If this is the case, then there is nothing different to anybody else's set up, as most vehicles have a smaller main battery than the leisure battery! :D :D :D JIM!!

cannot see the problem in different makes of battery as long as the capacity match is near enough, i agree that the main starter battery may have a smaller capacity than a leisure one but in the end a battery is a battery i swap mine about and as long as they are looked after they never let me down

new large ford based autosleepers have 3 batts in total .main batt for engine
deep cycle batt fitted by ford and leisure batt fitted by autosleeper
