Hi, I have noticed that Autroute is now in production again. Microsoft had originally discontinued it in 2007. I have Garmin, but Autoroute is a handy comparison to have when planning trips. Has anybody got the new 2010 version ? Is it a big improvement over 2007 ? Is it worth buying ?

Thanks Dezi

The first version of M/S Autoroute that I had came on 3 floppy discs. It had both Raster and Vector map projections. Why they didn't continue those I'll never know. It was really good to be able to look at an Ordnance Survey type map
Now it seems to come on 2 CDs or 1 DVD and takes up more space than anything else on my PC except my "art" collection :D

The first version I had was before MS bought it - can't remember the name. It ran in DOS and came on two (I think) 5.25" floppies - one for the prog and one for the data. We thought it was brilliant! No fancy graphics or choices though, just outline maps and text.

(I still marvel at route finding software)

The software was developed here in Blighty, and was always called Autoroute ...

NextBase? Or something like that ...
Yup! I've just been Googling and found:

"The original Automap was created by NextBase Limited a British Software Company. It was founded by five friends working out of a house in Esher, Surrey, England. We later moved to an industrial park in Staines, England. No garage was involved. Our first product was AutoRoute which was launched in 1988. We also created AutoRoute Plus, MapBase, NextBase World Explorer, MapVision, Automap Road Atlas, Automap Streets and Automap Pro."

I have 2010 but have yet to install it as you have to remove ALL traces of 2007 first, I don't know if that's due to it being a 'back up/down load' copy or not?

If anyone says it's worth doing I'll have a go and let you have a copy.
