Some people!

Just had my first offer on the Motorhome and feel quite offended by it.

Some people believe that because they have "cash waiting" that they can command a huge drop in the price.

£30,000 is already giving it away, compared to same make/model/year on forums & ebay.

How do you deal with these people without getting upset or offended??

Would'nt be a chancer from a certain well known dealer who shall remain nameless would it??

There's always someone who will try it on, probably hoping you're so desperate to sell you'll take whatever's offered. I always tell them to come back when they are ready to make a sensible offer. They know they are trying it on and you do too.

If you can hang on to it till march or april next year you will more than likely get a better price for it, end of season is always harder to sell.

Good luck anyway, let us know how you get on, hope you're not leaving us. :)

Dealers in hiding

It may well be the case that the 'offer' was made by a dealer in disguise - offering a silly £27k today and on his yard for sale tomorrow at £33k.
Either that or he was just a cheeky b..........

Trust me, it was a worse offer than £27,000.

I've had all the spiel....Actual cash waiting, need to buy today, can catch the train or plane now, will give you until 2pm to re-consider the offer, etc etc

They have had a quick response with a "you dont need to hold it open until 2pm because the answer is no, but good luck with your search" etc etc.

I phoned this dealer, ( well im assuming it's the same one )
and he offered £12,500, for somthing that sells for £22,000 on his forcourt. Thats £9500 profit

I dont think they are motorhome traders because their buying/selling history for the last few years tells me they are occasional car sellers at 3 or 4 a year.

I've heard nothing off them since & assume they have either taken the No as it is (a definite no to their insulting offer), or are going to try to let me sweat. That won't work....it will sit on the driveway till Spring or be used as a temporary home now our house is on the market (looking to upgrade to something with a little land to further expand our income options).

I'm probably not going to relist it on ebay actually. I cannot deal with the hassle of haggling. Will review options after Xmas maybe.....and trade it in for a couple of new cars or sommat.

Have you tried Peter at Johns Cross as he did talk sensible prices to me about a year ago when I was thinking of selling.

I sent him the link to ebay sale I believe. Not heard anything back.

Why did you not take this Peter up on his offer?

Was his price not good enough or are they time wasters?

Hi, Peter has not made an offer...I just sent him the link to my ebay sale...thats all.
He's done nothing wrong. After seeing their kind offer to loan a motorhome to people on here who were badly treated by another trader, I would have no hesitation in dealing with them. Should our plans change & we ever want to trade-in, they will be our first port of call.

Sounds like he's pretty good then, I just wondered why ***** never took him up on his offer.

Thanks for that, I was unsure as to Peter's motives but I am glad you cleared that up for me.:)

Hi,

I could have an interest in buying the AutoTrail, PM is on its way.

I always offer what I consider to be a fair price to both seller and buyer and I have concluded numerous seamless transactions with members of a number of forums where they need to dispose of their vans.

Unlike many 'buyers' I do not take advantage of others misfortunes and kick them in the @@@@@s !

So the asking price is £30.000 a dealer offers £27.000 and sells for £33.000 having done credit checks, put a guarantee on it, paid for advertising, paid his staff wages, paid his taxes and stored it until it sells.

Sounds like a pretty fair deal to me:).

Ah but you forget that on the £6000 gross profit before any costs are taken into account the VAT man takes aprox £900 straight away.

All pre-owned items sold by any trader including antiques/TV's/Furniture etc are subject to the Margin scheme on which VAT has to be paid on the gross margin.

Thats a good point, we used to have a very small car sales business, we packed up as the overheads just took too much of the profit, you could sell a car and make £200, by the time you had paid the valeting, guarantees etc, when you considered the time spend buying stock and arranging it all it just wasnt worth it.
The problem at the moment is you have loads of lookers but only a few people actually spending, people will often try to knock you down, its a mental thing they feel they have a better bargain.
I feel the current climate is a difficult time to sell anything, but thats just my feelings, dont loose heart just ignore the fools and carry on, I dont feel Ebay is the best place to sell, try some of the specialist websites.
I dont know Johncrossmotorhomes but from what I see he is an honest bloke, I am sure he would advise you.
