My daughter has just seen a 1990 auto sleeper on a Talbot express 2litre petrol
Is there anything to be aware of and what would the fuel consumption be
This van has done 135000 miles inside is good and body work is good
anybody got any ideas on price
Thanks

Impossible to say without seeing it as the condition is everything for something this old. Probably £6000-£9000. MPG 24

usual checks ie body ok and mechanicaly ,service history would be nice ,the gear linkage can be a bit sloppy to say the least on the talbots but that is easy to rectify. also check the c.v joints for wear with it being front wheel drive ,wear will show up as a loud clicking noise when driving on full stearing lock. also the talbots had a nasty habit of the inner wheel arches rotting out at the front .and if it has the plastic front bumpers they can hide a multitude of sins behind them at that age . mpg should be mid 20s cannot help with the price as firefox says its all dependent on condition and level of interior fittings but dont let the age put you off mine is a 27 years old bedford cf and has proved very reliable over the years i have had it . touch wood:D:D

Yes, 19 years old is nothing for a motorcaravan. They are usually well looked after and driven sensibly so they can almost last forever. The main problem is really terminal rust, but often such is the value of the vehicle interior, it can still be worth spending a couple of £1000 on extensive chassis repair.

check also to make sure the handbrake is ok...a lot of people use the handbrake as a hold handle to get in and out(handbrake is on the right of the drivers seat..)dont worry of the age my bedford cf is a 1979 and is ok..mines a petrol cf coachbuilt and i get about 22mpg..would imagine a talbot will be about the same i would of thought.

Thanks for all your help
Have decided to keep looking as i think we can find one with a better interior:)

Hi why not get somebody to check it out for you, RAC etc, probably £40, will give you a good idea, as to its condition BAZ.

We had an Autosleeper Talisman on a 2ltr diesel (E reg) and only got 24mpg, so I would have thought (if it's a coachbuilt) that 18 - 20 would be more realistic.

Take a weak magnet and try for filler along the front edge of the bonnet, front wheel arches and front outer sills below the door as that's where our started to rot.

I found the A/S owners club to be VERY helpfull and can supply some hard to find parts. Good luck!!

just taken my 1989 dethleffs globetrotter for mot it still has the original brakepipes even our usually miserable tester was impressed, by the way it is for sale very soon
