Hi
Austria tomorrow. If I don’t wish to go on motorways, is it possible to drive without buying a Vignette?
Just going into Vienna and then to Salzburg.
Google without motorways and tolls gives me routes but I don’t want to inadvertently find myself on a motorway!!
Would appreciate opinions.
Thanks Alshymer

My Tom Tom has a no tolls opttion..It worked for us in Austria.
But you cannot beat a bit of planning
AND knowing the correct colours of the roadsigns

It's not just motorways, includes "express roads", so as long as google route avoids "A" and "S" routes it will be ok.
Sometimes I buy a vignette, sometimes don't, have been caught out and ended up on S road though.

In Austria you can buy a vignette for 8 days, not too expensive. As stated before the vignette is needed on some main roads as well as motorways. We have driven through from Italy into Germany but you need to set your satnav to avoid toll roads. If your journey looks complicated then it may be as well to buy the vignette to save problems

Yes thank you. I have just bought one in Czech Republic for £9 equivalent.
It’s not worth the worry is it!
Thanks for all replies.
Happy travelling.

There appears to be a restriction on entering Austria
any Austrian, EU, EEA or Swiss citizen or any person for whom the above exceptions apply will only be allowed to enter Austria upon presentation of a medical certificate confirming a negative molecular-biological SARS-CoV-2 test, unless their immediate departure from Austria is secured. The certificate must be issued by a licensed medical practitioner in German or English and THE TEST must not be older than THREE days at the time of entry.

Hi
Thanks for that but I don’t think that applies to us.
As residents of France we are not from a third country.
Austria has not banned EU citizens from entering is the way I read it.
