as we have some members and there families from Australia, i hope all are safe and well. i dont know exactly where they are living but lets hope far away from the fires. and may i also send my deepest sympathy to there fellow people who are suffering

I echo that. I heard today from a friend whose house just escaped but neighbours weren't so lucky. Things are desperate out there in Victoria: a place we stayed in a few years ago (Marysville) has been totally destroyed, which is very hard to grasp.

The great thing is apparently how amazingly people are pulling together to help each other and the Australian Red Cross is gathering donations from worldwide to help those who've lost everything.

If any of our friends are out there too - our thoughts are with you.

Thanks guys. I'm unaffected living in QLD, my family living in Melbourne have been unaffected directly, but my son in law is now involved with policing in the area - he's a detective. Spoke with him last night and they are now involved with anything upto 200 murder inquiries as some of the 50 plus fires have been lit by arsonists.

It is without doubt our worst natural disaster, the fires were travelling at anything upto 60kph which at first sight seems to be the reason why so many people have perished in their cars trying to outrun the fires. The size of the fires is almost impossible to comprehend - 300,000 hectares or about 750,000 acres - and Victoria is about the size of the UK. Fires are still burning (Tuesday am) in areas with no access.

I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of drought and flooding rains,
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel sea,
Her beauty and her terror -
The wide brown land for me.

Our prayers are with those poor people who lost there lives and the others who has lost there homes and belonging.

God bless all who are helping.
