Just saw this article in Saturdays Scottish Daily Mail.
The headline suggests that only we are responsible for what’s going on.
But when you read it, it clearly looks like we are not the main culprits.
Yet another piece if biassed reporting, complete with the usual type of photograph.
Take a good look at the photo, apparently we are wild camping in static caravans now.

And we are also responsible for assaulting a warden when asked to put out a fire in a Forrest. No wonder we are hated by many.

They have found £1 million to police us, how many elsan points for £1 million.
That’s what I thought, how many facilities they could put in place for £1 million that would cater for all the visitors by putting bins and elsan points in place.
Rather than some jobsworth in a uniform

The country and the world would be a much better place if the Mail was not in it.
I am no fan either but, you cannot blame solely the Mail. This type of reporting over the past few years has become the norm from the vast majority of newspapers and magazines. But yes it’s not one of my favourite newspapers, but my wife likes the magazine that comes with it on a Saturday.

Serious question - Are camp fires something that motorhomers do? I never have and wouldn’t have the need or want to.

Or is the article once again written by someone who doesn’t have a clue about Motorhomes, campervans, wild tenters, or caravans?

Simon absolutely, this is utter garbage. Anyone who owns a camper or a Moho knows this. Sadly though put yourself in the position of a member of the public. You read the headline, don’t even bother to read the article, just move on from those selfish filthy Motorhomers who are causing all the problems. Even if you can be bothered to read it, it only serves to perpetuate what you had already deduced from dozens of similar articles over the years.
I am absolutely convinced the assault came from tent dwellers in Fife. I will contact Robbie Blythe later today to find out what he knows.

Just sent this to Robbie Blythe.

Hi Robbie,

I hope you are well, enjoying this fine weather.

Robbie I just read this article on Saturdays Scottish Daily Mail. (My wife likes the magazine). I was concerned to read that a warden was assaulted in Fifes Tentsmuir Forrest, by folk starting a camp fire.

First I am sorry to hear of this Robbie, and I am shocked that any Motorhome owners would behave like this, if it was the case. I hope the warden has recovered from this assault, and I hope that the culprit(s) are brought to justice.

But I don’t understand why anyone in a Motorhome would start a fire, it seems more likely to have been people camping in tents. Quite frankly this whole article is a poor piece of journalism from a well known rag. Robbie without going into details for obvious reasons, can you confirm if this was carried out by a Motorhome or camper van owner. If you are unable to confirm this, I fully understand.

All the best Robbie.

My ears pricked up when they mentioned Arran in that article though. I appreciate its the Mail so probably all garbage but I hope they are not clamping down there of all places.

Don’t worry Barry, it is utter garbage. I know and have contacts on Arran, and those who run the island are generally supportive of us. But Arran does have issues right now regarding the ferries. Yes there are some on Arran who don’t welcome us, mostly in Brodick. But we only travel through Brodick, only ever stop there for an hour or two to do some shopping in the Coop and Arran outdoors, or for a lunch, we never overnight there. So don’t worry about Arran.
They are looking forward to seeing you again, after your prolonged stay last summer, they have decided to make you an honorary citizen of Arran. :ROFLMAO:

I figured as much. I take part in their FB group and have never heard anything negative. Not sure where will get to this year. Looks like South west first but its been delayed. Arran later in the summer maybe.

Yes it has Fisherman. A shared grievance is something that unites people and many of the gutter press moneyterise that. However the Mail goes further I think and often manufactures them on slow days for outrage.

Well well just as we all suspected utter garbage from the Daily Mail.

I have just received a reply from Robbie Blythe the head of operation Fife Coastal Trust my email is on post 10. This email makes for very interesting reading, Robbie highlights how well his changes have been welcomed by our community, and it highlights his support for us. When you consider some of the behaviour from some, with long stayers, awnings and the like that speaks multitudes for both Robbie, and Fife. Anyway enough from me, here’s Robbie’s reply.

Hi Bill

I’m good thanks

Its common knowledge that this was not a motorhome user but potentially some one camping. I would agree that the report doesn’t seem to be accurate. I’m going to hazard a guess that it’s the Daily Mail however in my experience even the other papers aren’t always the beacons of truth though in my experience local papers e.g. the courier, Fife Free Press etc do give us the opportunity to respond.

Its also worth noting that you can not park overnight at Tenstmuir as the carpark has an automatic barrier on it with clear guidance on vehicle usage.

With the changes we have introduced to our carparks much of the feedback from the Motrohome Community has been very positive and though its early days it seems to be going quite well (touch wood).

This link takes you to the parking locations where we working hard to facilitate sustainable overnight parking 😊: https://fifecoastandcountrysidetrust.co.uk/plan-your-trip/overnight-parking/

Kind Regards

Coincidentally I have just filled in a questionnaire from ‘visit Scotland’ I think it was, and I told them at great length that it is a shame that newbies and on-hire motorhomers seem to be lacking in the kind of etiquette we all know and understand, and then as a consequence they’re bringing us ‘normal’ motorhomers into disrepute. I also said it was their fault for promoting the NC500 to all and sundry that was causing issues by overloading the roads.
