Had a trip to Arnside yesterday/today. The promenade location has a council sign saying no overnight camping and an additional banner asking locals to report any they see to the police. Photos attached. The small car park location further on, by Arnside cottage is a disabled only car park. However the layby location by Nat Trust Arnside Tower was great. (3rd photo) Beautiful views, great walks, no light pollution, quiet road. We had a lovely time.

There are big signs now in place that say 'No overnight camping allowed' These signs do apply and overnight camping is not allowed here.

Also, there is a TRO in place and this bans overnight camping for motorhomes along the whole promenade.

There are lots of lovely campsites nearby though, so worth a day trip to the area but not worth it for trying overnight camping on the Promenade as it is illegal.

You are not a campsite owner by any chance are you? :ROFLMAO:

Lovely campsites? Must be at £40 a night and that is without breakfast.

Cheers

These are the reasons as cited in the proposed TRO:

It has been observed that numerous vehicles, caravans, twin unit caravans, motor caravans and campervans park on The Promenade and on Station Road, Arnside.

Due to the width of the road and the amenities of the area, such parking in the area hinders traffic movements and is leading to an increase in anti-social behaviour in the area overnight.

Anti-social behaviour? Blaming motorhomes again!

TRO here:

Not sure I see anything in the reply that requires pointing someone to go elsewhere....

I read it as someone wanting to avoid folks making a trip pointlessly to a spot with a restriction on it.

I would have also seen it that way until I saw the phrase 'lovely campsites'. :giggle:

ps, the C&CC hold a number of THS at a Farm in Arnside. Details easily found by C&CC members.

Never thought that spot at Arnside was appropriate so have never stopped overnight there. In view of a lot of houses business's etc, don't think I would like motorhomes staying overnight outside my house. OK for the fab chippy then move on, a few places close and out of the way and much more secluded.

According to the local councillor I was communicating with. the final straw for residents who had so far been tolerant was a large German motorhome who stayed for a week, sprawled across three parking bays and put out awnings, chairs , tables and suchlike and emptied his cassette in the sea and grey water on the road. Even the motorhomer living opposite clamoured for a TRO. It beggars belief that time and again there is ample opportunity to take action against guilty individuals using existing powers but nobody ever does so, instead eventually everyone is banned. Notwithstanding that I would never stay in such a place myself opposite houses...just bad manners. The further backlash from this was that planning enforcement action was to be taken against the Ship Inn at Sandside, had it not closed before that could happen. The whole area is in the AONB and the local plan prevents any increase in facilities for ‘camping’.

That's a bugger, I supplied that as a POI many years ago. :(

Meaning Holgate's have it all taped off for themselves ...

A classic example of what’s wrong with this country.
Surely this moron should have dealt with on an individual basis.
But no as usual it’s a ban for everyone due to the actions of one.
If a dog dog owner left their dogs mess would they be fined, or would all dogs be banned.
And yes David parking in front of peoples homes is a no no.
