Arbroath - Turned away

was on here last week Mildred.

Hi Mildred this was mentioned on here last week but we have had new members join since,so maybe useful for them to read and I for one would not be going there to stay.:)

I know Hobby Caravans have been banned from some places. I didn't realise it had extended to Vans.

The Hobby Van is a really nice vehicle, the only major design fault is a very narrow space between the bulge in the shower door and the kitchen... just 400mm. But I think I could live with that if I had one. £58,000 was a bit steep, I bet they payed full whack off a dealer with an extras pack, I think you can do a much better deal than that if you shop around and negotiate.

It seems I would be refused too, my van has the door offside.

Perhaps also my co pilot is the wrong breed ...GSD.!!!

Looks like I wont be reading tea leaves in Arbroath next summer.

On a serious note I find it all quite interesting. A park owner should have the right to formulate policies of what and whom they want to attract or dissuade from visiting. Afterall there are a lot of adult only sites (although that is often because the public liability insurance is cheaper when no kids are on site) Some allow dogs others dont.

If these people and their parent company are happy to discriminate on a marque of van then I guess too that is ok.

I just hope that the publicity around all this promotes as many people as possible to boycott the site. Few business seem to survive without customers.

the make of camper should not be an issue. that is like saying that particular people such as english , scottish , welsh or irish people is not allowed.
tony

That site is just messed up.

One thing I noticed was they were also claiming it was a "privacy" issue because the door was on the "wrong" side ie continental van. Never heard that that could be a privacy issue before!

Now apparently Red Lion Park is run by Perthshire Caravans who sell Motorhomes and a large part of their range is continental vans with doors on the "wrong side." So go figure; they are a bunch of idiots :D

Only thing to do with this kind of site is to spread the word and boycott them.

im glad im not the only one to get turned away from a site:D stay clear of blaircastle perthshire we got turned away from there cos our camper selfbuild didnt have ventilation :confused:big side door back opening windows

Can someone enlighten me what this all means, I just read the thread twice without success,
is this ***** van issue, or something else I'd love to know

anyone?

I'll substitute the above for 'thieving tarmac merchants' see if that get ce****nsored

Whilst I think your idea is excellent, there is a problem with the negative encounters one can be sued when airing views albeit legitimate on a public arena. Also and more relevant is the site owner can be implicated too.

That said linking to the Arbroath post, A factual I was turned away from xxxx because of the reasons given is a legitimate thread. And relevantly defendable

It is important though we dont get into xyz co are a bunch of !!!!!!! because. For your idea to work it would need serious moderation

we were at redlion last w/end and got on ok-ours is a sunlight a69.the girl in the office didnt even get off her bum.

this is the reason im 100% wild, i sometimes wonder who these campsite owners think they are,im not tarring them all with the same brush ,im speaking from experiance when we camped with our motorcycle,oh sorry were fully booked blah blah ,

I had no idea this pecking order, we wondered at the question over the phone when booking sites but thought it just a query on vehicle length or something,

Perhaps we might have asked in hindsight:
"will there be crying babies in next doors van & what time in the early hours will the fleet of minibuses arrive with over excited teenagers please so we can be sure to wait up"

I agree - people like this should be professional enough to recognise a 'travellor' from a holiday maker. If they are spot on, they will have got the address from the person booking the holiday in the first instance and requested a booking deposit - non returnable. It really just shows their ignorance: if they think that they can treat people like this and get away with it then they're wrong.
By the way - We went to Arbroath last year - dire - smoked kippers maybe a delicacy but at £14 a pair, they should be. Beach was crap, coastline scenic but inaccessible and quite frankly, wouldn't bother to visit again. Maybe I didn't experience the hospitality of 'said' campsite: mind you, we only have Autotrial Cheyenne (the lower bracket £30.000) Would we have been allowed? Being Indian and all that!!
