Anyone wild camp with caravan

I know this is probably a silly question but has anyone ever wild camped with a caravan? we are proud owners of a small eriba caravan, will i have to wait til the day arrives when we own a motorhome to have the pleasure of wild camping or is it a reasonable thing to do with our little eriba ? Best wishes. Ellen.

I did for 20 years , 40 odd countries
easier than with a motorhome , just unhitch and leave the caravan wherever the other wild campers are , car to go where you want
mind you , I did have a double axle tabbert like the gypsies, so more space than your average motorhome !
only gave up as a 40ft outfit got a bit much to handle

There's one that parks every other weekend at the end of our road, probably fishing, lovely spot right by the sea, not far from you, Co-op, chippy, butchers, bakers etc less than quarter mile away.

Give it a go.

I used to work in remote telephone exchanges and did it all the time.

Obviously don't make it look like a Gypsy site and I've never had a problem

Try it out at:

Old Colwyn Prom/Cliff Gardens look on google maps post code LL29 9sn is near enough

Not done it myself but seen others do it. A few words of caution:
1. It is clearly not as easy to get up and drive awy from a spot if there is any sign of trouble (boy racers etc)
2. Since wildcamping is technically illegal, it is not going to be as easy to claim that you are just parked up and not "camped" if the authorities decide to get uppity
3. We were once on an official aire in Spain alongside three other motorhomes and one caravan. The police visited and turned the caravan off (which was a bit embarrassing because he was the only Spaniard and the rest of us foreigners were left to enjoy free hospitality - including electricity - from his taxes!).

If you do a search on the forums for "caravan" you'll find this has been asked quite a bit before and there are various opinions on it.

But while it is possible, it's much easier to get away with in a motorhome for practical and perception reasons. It may also be better to stay hitched to the towcar which means you may not be able to level but it's the same for motorhomes. They don't tend to use wheel chocks or anything outside the vehicle when parking up wilding.
