Just stumbled across this website and it is apparently a place where motorhome owners can travel through france and stay over night for free in vineyards etc, it apparently they ahve sites all over France and as long as you only stay upto 24 hours its free! The only cost is for membership which is 28 euro's and then you get a sticker for your window and a list, map of all the sites available over 1400 all over France, looks good to me but has anyone else ever heard of this scheme and if so is it any good?:)

We are France Passion members for more then 14 years now and use their hospitality regularly. Never been disappointed. :)

Have a look at: FRANCE PASSION la France en camping-car
The best way to discover France (.... and their wines) .
Not all are winegrowers, but also farms, artisans, or simply MH enthousiasts. But allways free standing and no obligation.

Thanks for he info

Amazing post a few questions and your answers arrive brilliant, thank you for your responses loving this forum.....

Go for it - you'll find yourself in all kinds of interesting places - last year we spent time among bee hives, in a vineyard or 2, on a bunny farm, in lavender fields and in an orchard.

That's the way we are (most of us):
You post a question. You allways have a response, sometimes it even could be serious ;):D

I have heard some adverse comments about France Passion; usually along the lines of being had over for a pot of honey or indifferent wine
I cannot comment on the France Passion sites as I have never used them

France Passion

we have been a member of this for over a year now and every time we go to France it just seems to get even better, we stayed in the Champagne region in early June, the vineyard was open to other motorhome users, there was water, waste and electrics, all free for members of France Passion it was beautiful, also we have been in the Tarn region and stayed at some lovely domaines (independent growers), at one we had a shower/toilet and an electric socket all to ourselves, that was really heavenly, i would say go for it, its money very well spent, within a few days we had really had our money's worth, in fact, it may be an idea if people put up lists of the really good places, we have found many and would highly recommend, so depending on where you are going i would be more than happy to tell you what ones we have been to.

We stayed on a free aire which was also a French Passion site near to Bergerac. This was a small vineyard, the owner insisted we go at 6pm to the shop for a wine tasting. There was no pressure to buy & we had a good time, we didn't like any of the wine & didn't buy any as the cheapest was 7€ a bottle. If we had liked it a bit we probably would have bought a bottle, likewise if we had known it was a France Passion site we wouldn't have stopped as there was another free aire a couple of miles away. Although there is no pressure to buy we did feel uncomfortable about staying for free & not buying his wine.
When I last looked at the FP all the sites seemed to be clustered in certain areas.

That's normal; initially they started with winegrowers. So you'll still find most of them in the winegrowing area's. But now there are also hosts outside the wine areas: in Brittany, in Normandy, Picardy, Auvergne ... They come in all professions now: farms, paté-producers, austrich-farms, cider-farms, oyster-farms, even restaurants ....
When I joined the scheme there were only 200 or so; the book war mere a leaflet. Now more than 1400 in a 200 page book.
If you like the wine or other products, feel free to buy or not; no obligation.
You are the guest. More than a thank you isn't expected.
Over the years I've made a lot of friends among the FP hosts, and I mean real friends not only acquintances.
For 28 € (25 if early subscriber) you get 1400 adresses for free overnighting
(for that price you have 3 days in a regular camping).
So... :confused::)

Oyster farms? :) Tell me more please!

In Noirmoutier and another one on Île des Dames at Port-de-Bargues near Rochefort. :) (it was 5 € a dozen  splendid with a bottle of muscadet and a baguette - you should have an oyster knife to open them )

As far as I know the Portugese didn't see the light yet ;):D:D

Thanks Guys

Thanks everyone for your replies, I think we will join the France Passion scheme and give it a go, loving the idea of staying on a vineyard etc in the middle of nowhere.
Alison I think your idea is great if anyone is up for listing the location and reviews that would be great and I am sure useful for all. who wants to start?

It's a great idea to give some references about France Passion.
Only... FP themselves won't like it to have their adresses gone public.
After all they are doing a great job and their only income is from the members only. This is their only way to get their yearly guestbook printed and distributed to the members.
What we could do is give our personal experiences without too much adress details or satnavs. Most of the hosts really don't mind if a non-FP member shows up.(in fact they also pay to be a FP-host !)
Maybe we should only give references as: Vineyard x in Y (page 123 in the FB-book); and then sometihng about the welcome, the situation, their products, the surroudings etc...

I agree page number etc only

Think that if they have gone to so much effort to produce something that can benefit everyone a simple page ref would not damage the income stream they have and would also then help with finding the place. How about a simple rating system such as recommended, OK or not for me system, be great to include whats on offer at each place as well, kind of a don't forget to visit or don't forget to try the wine etc.... think this post will be very useful thanks..
