Amazing ADAC

Membership with ADAC only since 5th January. Last night is rained and rained on a peninsula not far from Setubal in Portugal. This morning we were truly stuck fast in the thick red goo. Snow chains came out. The wheels span. Grip tracks came out, no grip but buried.

ADAC were with us in about an hour after the rep in Barcelona rang us back. A pukka truck tow truck winched us out and the chaps even washed out the snow chains in a puddle for us.

Both Germany and Spain spoke amazing English. I know other people have commended ADAC and we now add to this list.

Last insurers used the AA who were hopeless in sending out an appropriate low loader to recover us last summer with a previous 'van.

We rarely have any customer loyalty to any firm but we are now life long ADAC members.
 
I'm glad it all turned out well.

I had cause to seek their help for the first time last month here in Spain. After a few language difficulties were overcome help arrived in under the hour promised.

The fault was found and fixed at a local garage, and I was back on the road very quickly. No fee was charged.

I have every intention of staying with ADAC.

Don't forget their membership includes lots of other benefits including medical assistance and repatriation ...

I've always been lucky with whoever RAC uses in Europe.
you've got the right engine.....
now all you need is RWD.

My breakdown cover is due at the end of the month normally get it with the insurance, but this year there using the AA and there not my preferred choice, I looked at ADAC and says you need to reside in Germany am I looking in the wrong place.
 
No Cass there is no need to be a German resident. We reside here in U.K. and had no problem joining

I too have just looked at the ADAC site - it plainly states "Using the links below to acquire ADAC membership requires that your place of residence is in Germany."
I personally wouldn't risk it if i lived elsewhere.
 
They must know that people they accept have uk addresses! I've used them twice, in the uk (where they use AA) and once in France.

Somebody posted recently that their membership renewal had been turned down because they'd called them out twice in a year. Has this happened to others? Maybe it's a new policy to discourage non German residents from applying?
 
No need to reside in Germany

ADAC membership is for German residents. ADAC PLUS is for other countries. Ring / email and ask for membership numbers. Once you have those you can ring and pay for PLUS membership. Think it was EUR 129 for both of us- membership is on the person so applies to you and any vehicle you may be driving. There is a restriction on how big your motorhome can be, but at 4.25 tons and 7.52m long we were well under the limit.
 
If you try to join online it will say you need a german address but I was advised to ring to join which I did in November. Still didn't cancel my breakdown with comfort. Probably wouldn't get a refund anyway running out end of march. We joined for the repatriation part as well which comfort doesn't do.
So glad you had a good experience with them. It has reassured me that we will too. If it ever happens which I hope it doesn't.

Been with ADAC a while now. Just ring them and ask to speak to an English speaker, its plain sailing from there. You DO NOT need to reside in Germany to be a member, but you do to join using the website.

There limits are 7500kg and 10m length.

Still wet on and off, so parking on hard surfaces! Can smell the Troon fish already! X

After we had established who we were they took the details, then we had to wait so asked if they would phone us back, which they did.
A couple more calls, then Jan went to the van and it started,hurray, hurray����.
The insurers rang back and we told them we are now running all O.k.
As a thought I asked about the cover we had for breakdown, we usually travel in Europe have 10/12 week trips, so I understood that I was covered for that time away.
The agent informed me that in any year I had 60 days European cover and for trip no longer than 30 days!��.
As the van had been out since 15th November2016 we weren't covered!!
Luckerly he asked when we had arrived, as we had flown home at chistmas and just arrive back on the 31st January 2017 that is how I answered.
So what is covered you or the Van?
As we are here until May, I will be contacting ACAD breakdown service.
Do they have a limit on countries/ time away?

It's an annual insurance policy so there is no time limit.

The cover is for the individual or individuals not a specific vehicle and covers the EU and certain other countries as defined in the policy. (Quite what will happen once we leave the EU will be interesting.)

Note that the membership renews automatically each year. If you wish to cease belonging you have to give notice.

That's interesting Chris, I thought I had to ring to renew.
 
ADAC post an invoice at renewal time. However the only payment option for members outside Germany is credit card (though an international bank funds transfer should be possible but will cost more).

So you have to phone to pay.

It was us who had membership restricted to germany only, that was (I think 2015) but that was two claims in UK. There was no problem joining with a uk address and we were extremely unfortunate to have the only times we had breakdowns was so close together. They were really excellent though and , although it was disappointing, can see that it looked like we had an old van used in UK only...not the case, but we had value for money. Maybe if the claims were in europe it would not be a problem?? I would still recommend them.
