Hi, just bought a 6 berth 7.40 long. Is that classed as normal or a Larger home.
Looked at some campsites and they say do not take larger motorhomes.
Plus wheres the best place to find a good campsite.?

I am 7m and I don't take any notice of signs that say "larger" motorhomes. I take the view that the onus is on the campsite to make clear what they will take and what they won't take.

Last night I was parked next to a huge mh, must have been 9 or 10m (HGV based). A bit further away was a van conversion, about 5m. It is all relative.

In the UK, I belong to the Caravan club which has small certificated locations from as little as £3.00 per night (you only get water and a hole on the ground at that price) or sometimes electric hookup too. They also have some larger, but still quiet sites. Or you can go for the all singing, all dancing sites with swimming pools and karaoke nights. I mostly wildcamp, though, only using CLs as a back up.

It all depends what kind of camping you want to do.

I am finding that Europe is an easier place to wild than the UK...I don't know if others would agree.

Vans in general seem to be getting longer so I guess yours is on a par, mine is about 8 metres long,The Caravan Club do a really good Campsite book written by members so a good true report on sites, it is available to non members, lots of sites listed for France Spain and Portugal in the Europe edition, I find that lots of Aires in France are marking out bays for Motorhomes and they tend to be a bit short for my van ,but we manage, Camping club and Caravan Clubs have lots of super CLs and CS sites listed but you have to be a member of said clubs to use them [ in theory anyway ] they offer good safe stopovers with basic facilities such as water, toilet dump and often electric hook ups,all for reasonable costs, it all depends on your way of camping really.I prefer wild camping and I hope never to use a camp site again, but I guess that from time to time I will have to.

sites

wiled camp it is cheaper sites are to dear now we wildcamp all the time and like it u meet beter foke and no nosey kids diggdeep

Which is better Caravan club or Camping and Caravan club, also I didnt realize there were so many restrictions to just stopping anywhere - I thought I could just drive off for the night and park up.

I have been wild camping for 50+years and never ever been in a Campsite. Anywhere you lay yourself down providing you use your knowledge of the area, you will be comfortable with no hassle. Although I had a young family many moons ago it had not deterred me from wilding. Each one to their own. You gain experience as the years go by. At times I could only stay a night, due to some sort of shortage. Knowing Europe like the back of my hand, life is a lot easier, once you know where water, ablusions, shopping, etc are. The most important thing when you go for Wilding, is make sure you are self sufficent, especially, water and batteries. Of course there are folks who have very young children, they feel that it is best to be in a Camp site. I fully understand their intentions. Personnally, I like 2 wheels on sand and the other 2 on hard road to drive off. It is a matter of taste. All in all, each one does what he or she thinks is best. That should never be questioned.

Hi 3Jacky
Have a look on ukcampsite.co.uk it lists loads of sites all over the country.

I normally use the pub sites as they are quieter and not expensive, also do not have the silly rules.

My RV is 30` with spare wheel and bikerack so am restricted at certain sites.

We have a 7m 6 berth and although we've not stayed on a great amount of sites I've never had anyone tell me I'm too big and cant stop..

We have a 7m 6 birth wild and use sites when needed. We used to be members of camping and caravan club but when we had a caravan but did not renew about 5 years ago as we found then that we could not get into sites when we wanted to as they were fully booked. Since then we use uk camp site finder if we want a site but normally pull up at site without booking.
wilding is no problem as long as you feel safe where you stop POI on this site is fantastic for finding suitable spots to stop. The only issue with along van is when you stop at supermarkets choose your parking space far from store doors so you have room to get out

Happy camping

7.4m would be large in most people's perception, but whether you think it's large or not is up to you.

It would be better if they say no motorhomes over 7m or 8m or whatever.

These are not necessarily nonsense rules because sometimes due to limited access or gates or bends it is physically not possible to get a rig over the stated size onto the site.
