Alternative to Table/bed in living area

Hi

Our 4 berth Hymer has side facing seats with a table that goes down the middle of the van. The table folds down by half its size to become the middle part of the dinette bed.

Our problem is that the table is very heavy, theres no room when its up and doesnt fold flat to be put in the wardrobe.

Do you know of a table I can buy that will still act as the bed but I can fold flat to go in the wardrobe to free up space?

Any alternative soloutions will be greatly received

Do what we did.

If your side facing seat boxes have a rail for pull out slats on them cut three or four pieces of marine ply the width of the gap and the width of the bed mattress when its made up and put these down when you make the bed at night. Being marine ply it does'nt flex or bend like a solid board and being in pieces, all you have to do in the morning is either push them under the seat cushions or elsewhere that they are out of the way.

If your seat boxes don't have runners on them it should be fairly easy to get some batten type wood from your DIY store and cut it to suit and screw it on from the inside of the seat boxes.

It is what I was thinking of doing but I was unsure of the wood to use.

I assume you just bought a light weight folding table to use instead of your heavy one?

Hi badgerfamily,

Yes we bought a small folding table, and we leave our bed made up as we have enough room to still have a couple of spare seat spaces in our lounge area.

We took out our long seat cushions and got a 4ft x 6ft 6in mattress made for us by a bed shop where we live. Its far more comfortable than the seat cushion foam. I believe you can buy similar mattresses on ebay as well now.

We have a U shape lounge at the back, but we leave it as a full size bed when ever we travel. We have a 2 seater with table and also an under leaf table top which swings out. With the driver's and passenger seat turned around it sits 4 up front. Space enough for the 2 of us. The alcove above the cab we use as a storage pace. Cannot be bothered packing and bringing out the bedding daily.
