Altering water level prpbes

I'm replacing the internal 100l water tank in my Swift Moho with a smaller underslung CAK tank. The Sergeant probe has 4 rods and the longest one (about 30cm) will be too long for the new tank. Is it possible either just to clip the end off it or bend it so it'll fit.
It was never particularly accurate anyway so if it works at all that's a win.
Reason for the change is that there's b** all in the way of storage in the Swift and the space taken up by the internal tank will allow us to pack for longer than a weekend 😏

Why not just put a spacer between the top of the tank and the probe? It should be easy to work out what size spacer to use.

Too long, not too short :)
Unless you mean on the outside of the tank? In which case I think the floor of the van might just be in the way?

100l is about 2' x 2' x 1' not a significant storage gain.


Would you not be better off with a rear carrier or just a declutter?

The rods are simply water level probes with the tips defining the various levels. If you shorten the longest one so it ends an inch or so above bottom or an inch or so above the outlet if that's on the side wall, then cut the shortest one so ithe tip ends approx 1/4 of the way down. Then trim the other 2 so they equally space between the long and short rods you'll then get a nicely spaced indication of water level with a smallish reserve.
Unit you park on an slope of course 🙄

I think mohos are designed by people who never actually use them - the latest versions have underslung tanks and hopefully somewhere to store your smalls🤣

If it is flotation wouldn't you need to cut the top of the pipe not bottom

My understanding is that you can change the length of any tube but the longest one now must be the longest when you finish cutting.

Not frequency or flotation Jeff. It's checking for water level by passing a tiny current through the tank water via the probes. The bottom probe is 'common' and it's looking for continuity (via the water) to any of the other 3 probes.
Continuity to no probes means it's empty/ reserve.
Continuity to probe 1 ONLY means 1/4 + full.
Continuity to probe 2 1/2 full etc.
Continuity to probe 3 3/4 full or more.
 
Best not to think of the probes as 'tubes' they are actually wires.

I don't think "wires" is correct either.

The probes are not flexible.

Can we agree to call the probes "Probes" ?

There was doubt over exactly what the purpose of the 'rods' was so just pointing out that although they may be circular and are semi submerged they don't carry water and don't activate the measurement mechanism by hydraulics so shouldn't be viewed as tubes. They carry current not water and are electrical conductors (akin to a wire) and yes, they're definitely probes👍

Yer the longer they are at the different level shows up.. cerbox dose it phawth.I just got a transparent tank and put a light on the other side so my cold water glows.
My gray tanks has never backed up to the shower. But I've got a pop up waste. Lol
 
Watch the video (at 1min) it explains exactly what the rods/tubes/probes/wires are for. This is no doubt.
I don't need to watch because ( as you'll see if you look back to post 7 I explained how the sensor setup worked and how to trim the sensors to length, basically I personally had/ have no doubt.
