We occasionaly find free food when we are out and about with the motor home.
Today my partner returned from a wander around our evening park up with some almonds and pomegranate courtesy of the French countryside.
On trying the almonds I found they had a lovely undertone almond flavour but a horrid over taste.
I ate it non the less and on trying a couple more I found them to be the same.
My tongue then started to feel a little numb so I decided to do a little searching just in case I had poisoned myself (can't blame my partner as she didn't say I had to eat them!).
I learned that there are two types of almond; sweet and bitter. You should avoid the latter as they have a way of giving you cyanide poisoning.
So don't stop foraging but be careful out there.
On to the pomegranate next....

Certain Almonds are Highly Poisonous
You should know almonds come in two varieties, sweet and bitter, and the latter is highly poisonous when raw. Bitter almonds contain glycoside amygdalin. When eaten, glycoside amygdalin will turn into prussic acid, a.k.a. hydrogen cyanide, which incidentally was the key ingredient to Zyklon B...
