prongy ones do work if you push them into the surface to be tested

Best used for checking that you have fixed a damp ingress problem as the reading will drop off over time.....actually locating the source is trickier
 
Aye, the previous owners of my MH had it done yearly, tiny pinholes around the windows and doors in the van, mind you, I had it 2 or 3 weeks before I noticed them, and another week before I realised what the holes were for lol
 
I think the Aldi Damp Meter is one suitable for testing the moisture content of logs for wood burning stoves I dare say you could use it in a motor caravan but I believe the calibration is different.
