Anyone recommend a Thatcham approved alarm and a Thatcham certified motorhome installer in the northeast preferably on Teesside but can travel or use a mobile installer.
I’ve looked on the Thatcham website which is as much use as a chocolate firegaurd.

Steve cannot you ask the suppling dealer to have this done before delivery.l can recomend a mobile Thatcham fitter on your side of Leeds if any good.

Alf,
I know who the dealer use for alarms and not keen on using them. I’ve been online and have spoken to a few companies who will fit the alarm at my home or the dealer which is ideal as i won’t be driving it for 8 weeks or so due to knee operation.
The dealer is ok with me leaving it with them until I’m back on the road.
It’s now just a matter of what alarm to go for, amazing how many there is. Due to the value of the motorhome my insurer insists I have a tracker fitted, more expense !

Not always a good idea Alf.

I could not programme in one of my remotes after changing the battery and contacted a Company in Newcastle for help. I took the van over, the 2 guys looked it over and said 'who the f*** installed this?' They said it looked like a Motorhome Dealer had done it as it was not the first time they had seen such a mess. They sorted out my remote fob and I asked if I could book it in for them to sort it out properly and they did not want to touch it. They said it would take time to sort it and would not be cheap. They recommended I live with it (it all works properly except for the garage door sensor not working) or update it for a new system.

My dealer does not install alarms they get a company called phantom to do this work.

I know it’s not what your thinking but VanBitz in Devon is second to none, that’s why they offer a Lifetime Warranty. If your keeping the van long term it’s worth every mile to travel and make a break of it.

They only work on motorhomes. Nothing else.

If you go on ifitstuff.com a lot of the people have been trading for years I would recomend a cobra which is now owned by Vodafone and if you need a tracker I would go for the battery powered retrieve they was on offer last month most trackers incur an annual fee of around £130 year

Whoever you get to do the work check two things

1) The alarm has a perimeter only mode so that you can have the alarm on overnight.

2) External lockers / garages are alarmed.

Yes to all the above, my present pvc has the perimeter only mode that I use when I leave the dog onboard.

I have their Strikeback Growler system and it gives me great peace of mind when I leave the van. Not cheap, mind you.

Lockers are covered as is the bike or scooter rack. With the internal alarm working it is literally impossible to stay in the van it is so painful.

There is facility to turn off the internal alarm for nights on board or leaving my dog alone.

Flashing blue light front, back and near the hab door for deterrence.

Also, if you change your van, they will take it off the old van and fit on the new for a fee.
