Can anyone explain what ALKO means in terms of motorhomes or whatever. I haven't the fintest idea what it is.
 
good question ,i think its the name of the company who makes the special chassis fitted to the vans .
 
alco chassis

hi david & ann . when they build a long coach-built all that comes is the cab then they add the alco chassis which is galvanized other motorhomes come as standard and is one chassis front to back mainly on short wheel base because they use alco to make longer m/h's hope the photos help. happy camping P.S you can see where it is bolted on to the cab

You won't believe this and you can take the p***. I am 68 and have had a MH for 47 years and have always thought "Alcove" pronounced the German way, was the bed area over the cab. Boy oh boy, I must be a real dummy. All you folks can have a good giggle now. I deserve it.

It is! - Wohnmobil alcoven is the German term for a motorhome with a sleeping area over the cab.

One point to remember, the Alco chassis has greasing points which must be greased annually and the suspension must be dropped whilst greasing.

Very expensive if the suspension seizes up........................ !

that is one handy bit of info for anybody considering purchasing a van with that type of chassis ,especialy an older model that may not have been looked after 100% cheers
