Advice wanted for a nice quiet location within 70 miles of bristol to spend the day

I have the day to myself tomorrow and fancy getting away from it all. Had a rough few weeks and would appreciate the day to myself. My plan is to get in the van and head somewhere I can park up for the day, do a bit of reading/walking and general relaxing. Preferably without many people around so somewhere remote.

Ideally near water..

My limit is around 70miles, don't care which direction I head in either!!

Any ideas?

How about the Wye Valley or Forest of Dean? These should meet your criteria and the forecast shows a dry day for a change!

Actually yes the forest of dean is a good idea. Any recommendations for areas to go?

It's never very crowded. You might fancy Cannop Ponds, Soudley or Mallards Pike for a stroll around ponds; Bixslade for old quarries, Wenchford for a walk along a stream or the Sculpture Trail for a themed walk although you're much more likely to encounter families out on a Sunday walk. There's also a large parking area at Tidenham and a footpath leading to Devil's Pulpit overlooking Tintern Abbey which is good on a sunny day.

It's only about an hour from Bristol so you could cram a lot into a day.

Enjoy!

Thanks I have driven through the forrest a few times but never really stopped there.

Some good ideas there. Think thats where I will head. Thanks for the suggestions.

sorry I didn't see this before. I would have suggested maybe the Somerset Levels . Hope you had a nice quiet peaceful day wherever you ended up

Yep I did!

Wasn't quite what I planned but I had a good day. Spent most of the day with an extremely bad headache so I didn't manage to get much walking or reading done. I ended up just resting for a while in the van at Cannop Ponds and then wandered around for a while. Was busier than I expected but not too bad.

Also drove to another location that the name now escapes me but it wasn't free parking and looked too busy so I moved on.

However, I am defiantly going to return to the area. There were some really interesting areas I wanted to explore if it wasn't for the headache :(

We just came back from a weekend at a campsite called 'Cloud Farm' and it was great despite the weather! On the way found some awesome places to camp near Porlock Hill before the toll and on the other route. Will check the DB but I assume they are already known.
