Hi all, we are looking to buy a new(ish) van, we have seen one that we like that is being sold by a broker but we are worried that it might be a con. Has anyone here bought a van this way? Is it safe? Are we right to be worried?

The best thing to do is conduct a Google search with the brokers name and see what reviews there are. One of the biggest brokers is MotorhomeDepot who I believe are a pretty reputable organisation. Let your instincts be your guide though. If it doesnt feel right or the price is obviously too low i would walk away.

It is with motorhome depot and i have googled everything to the point I'm Google eyed! Lol! We became concerned when he said we were to transfer our money to his account before we get the key. He is also taking our old van in part exchange. Maybe we are being too suspicious but you are right something doesn't feel right🤔

If everything else is OK

Arrange with them to go to their yard with your Moho.
Swap keys sign up and transfer the funds online..usually almost immediate.
Let him check the funds have arrived..Then drive off into the sunset !

Just as I'd expect from any motorhome dealer thats how we bought ours. Took old van to their depot transferred funds in their office on line they checked we took paperwork and van an drove away.

We used motorhome depot to sell our old van, no problems great service, the buyer pays his money into a holding account whilst he insured and taxes the van, then once he’s done that motorhome depot pay the balance after their commission into your account all took about ten minutes,
If it’s a large sum you may want todo a small payment to make sure the bank details are correct and the money goes to the correct place

Put it through a credit card so you are covered, never bank transfair.

But remember, if the TOTAL purchase is over £30,000 you are not covered! We got caught by this when our van proved to be a bad buy. Barclaycard could not help us as purchase price over the limit. We used cards to pay half and thought it would cover up to £30000 but were wrong.

Well, we have bought the van👍We met the broker and the sellers, all really nice people. Hopefully I was worrying too much. Dorry to see our old one go, lots of happy memories but the new one is really nice so let the fun begin. Thank you all for your advice and comments😊

Another possible solution.

When we collected our new van we paid by Debit Card, ring the bank beforehand to let them know an unusual transaction is happening.

Worked well for us and instant confirmation for the dealer
