Advice on curtains / blinds / similar

Hi!

I'm a long-term lurker on the site and have finally registered.

I've got a couple of Land Rovers I use for camping - an ex army radio truck that's kitted out with a bed, cooker, sink etc, and a Discovery which I'm currently working on.

The radio truck is, to say the least, thirsty, averaging about 10-15mpg, so only gets used for local trips, so the Disco is becoming the vehicle of choice for getting out and about.

I've cracked the sleeping area in the Disco - I can fit a double airbed in on a plywood platform quite nicely and still fold the seats up so it looks like a car again. I've got a sort-of canopy that can be put up outside the back door for cooking etc, but there's one problem at the moment - windows.

I'm after some suggestions for blocking the windows from the inside (so I can clear them and drive away if needed). Ideally, I'd like something that is entirely removable rather than having curtain tracks fixed everywhere, as the Disco is my everyday transport, and also something that doesn't take up much room when removed and stowed away.

Also, I'm on a seriously tight budget at the moment.

Last time I used some pieces of plastic pond liner cut roughly to shape, which more-or-less worked but took about half an hour to fit sensibly.

The challenge is set! Any help would be really appreciated!

how about cheapooo camping mats, cut to slightly over size, then fix with velcro.

will block out light and also provide some extra insulation against the very cold single glazing.

Sounds a fair idea - if they are only just slightly over-size, they might wedge inside the rubbers on the fixed windows too.

Just use some popper studs fitted to the vehicle and then the same on your choice of curtain material.

I would suggest that you stick black velcro around all your windows and then you purchase some "Black Out Lining" for your blinds (this is not very expensive and being fabric will be flexible) . You can cut them to size and then attach the other side of the velcro to the blind. I would suggest that you stitch them and not rely on the sticky as when you remove them you may leave the velcro attached to its partner. These will easily be folded up and put in a carrier bag for when not in use. The black velcro will not show up when you are driving so therefore will not distract you.

I did this to my Son's bedroom when he was in lodgings and it worked well. Below is a link to what I am talking about.
