First my vehicle is a Elddis Auto Quest 140 base unit is a 07plate Peugeot Boxer 333 2.2 hdi diesel the vehicle battery failed the other day AA called tested battery said it had gone into a deep discharge started engine with booster pack retested all checked out ok alternator charging spot on I've decided to change it can any one tell me if I have to preserve 12 volts to the vehicle whilst I change the battery so I don't loose the radio coding centrel. Locking alarm etc on remote control key fob any advice would be much appreciated cheers Trd

You will loose the radio code, everything else should be OK, however you can connect another battery via jump leads + to + - to - but it's very very tricky especially if there isn't much room. So basically you would connect the jump leads to the new battery and then onto the terminals, undo the terminals and lift them if the old battery, put the new battery in and then very carefully you would hold the croc clip onto the side of the post without breaking contact, then hold the terminal to the other side of the post, take away the clip and fit the terminal over the post (again without breaking contact) and repeat for the negative post.

Won't Peugeot have the correct code if the radio is the original on the vehicle?
I had to replace mine on my 130 and they gave me the new documents giving the radio code.
They may keep records of Radio codes from VIN numbers.
Failing that, previous owner (if pre-owned) may have document information.

I have a small 12v battery, if I rigged a cigarette lighter plug to it and plugged it in to the car socket would that do the same?

I realise that I may have to 1/2 turn the key first. Sounds far easier than the jump lead system I have previously used.

I can charge my van starting battery via the cigar socket on my LDV Convoy - however some later vehicles may not permit this at all, or only as you say if the ignition is on as the cigar socket is on a switched live.

Another option that'd be simple enough would be to get a 'flying lead' type extra cigar socket ( a coupla quid, and crimps some termianls on it and have that as a hard-wired flying socket off the battery terminals - then you could easily plug in a small battery with plug that way?

I haven't tried it, but a battery charger connected in similar fashion would probably work in lieu of a spare battery lying around (as long as it wasn't some clever type that won't activate without sensing a battery connected).

Or possibly you could run a temp small lead off the leisure battery to the starter battery terminals to maintain the code, or even if you can be bothered, find a way to override the split-charge relay cutting the connection between the starter and leisure batts so you maintain voltage that way?

Off the top of my head, there seems to be a lot of potential ways to skin this particular cat.

I have disconected my boxer for over an 60 mins.

I've got a 2008 Citron relay, I had the battery disconnected for the afternoon while i changed the starter motor. The only thing I had to reset was the clock.
