Where is the best place to advertise a motorhome for sale for the best response ?

I would say Autotrader then Ebay would be my first choice in that order. You could always stick an add on here In the for sale section that’s free if your a full member.

Defo stick it on here first. We will be looking for a new mh on our return to GB in May and this forum will be the first port of call.

Facebook marketplace is a good platform as nearly everyone uses it on smartphones these days.

The major problem with eBay is the very high costs associated with selling an expensive item on there!

Other options which are free or with very low costs are of course Gumtree and then there is Car & Classic which has a special campervan section where you frequently see motorhomes on.................... I have used this free site to sell several cars on and the response rate is quite high https://www.carandclassic.com/cat/22/

Not the case with vehicles as they have a set price classified listing arrangement. If they didn’t every vehicle seller would avoid eBay and use competitors.

Really the best place to advertise is the one where you believe you will get the best price. Research will help guide you in the right direction.

The BIG and most important advice that can be given though is to not hand over the keys until any payment made has cleared.

I think eBay is a good place to sell as have a wide spread of buyers. The free options such as Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree tend to be much more of a local draw and what you might save on seller fees you will lose by ending up with a lower selling price.
Autotrader is a good option as well, as are specialist forums. I have bought and sold on all these myself (my last camper I sold on eBay and the buyer traversed 3 Countries to come and get it :) )

But what you should do wherever you sell is watermark your photos before posting them up on an advert to prevent them being used on a scam advert. If people see YOUR van sold elsewhere at a 'bargain' price, they won't trust your own advert.

Interesting re the watermark...Do you mean the price or something else ?

I sold mine on Facebook market place though I did have to spend time whittling out the scam buyers and the fake tyre kickers but all went smoothly in the end.

So very true, don't the scum bag time wasters drive you mad on eBay, I even had one making repeated contact with us from Nigeris offering 3 times the asking price, wanting to know our bank details and wanting us to give them back the excess amount in cash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You will always get people trying offers on all platforms. eBay probably more so as it has a greater reach (the pros vs the cons).

With my stripy Zebravan, I had a chap trying it on saying it was over priced, never sell and making a low offer. On his last message I was very pleased to reply to him saying thanks for the offer but just sold for the asking price :D

I had 7 Irish people all from the same town/village in Ireland with different names but all had the same profile picture and all had cash 😂

For me, and I expect most, cash is no go.
As others post bank transfer and check online (your phone or similar)
Even a B Soc cheque could be a fraud ?!

Has anybody had experience of selling to the "Cash for your Motorhome" ads in various camping magazines?

I only ever accept cash and done within the bank there and then, I dont trust electronic payments, no goods are released until all funds sorted & cleared.

I actually went to the bank with the person buying it and checked as the cashier transferred the money in front of me after going through a lot of security checks to make sure I wasn’t scamming her and I wasn’t being scammed I was quite impressed with the process.

I paid for my Motorhome doing bank transfer after it was dropped off to me. Bank unknown to me or seller did not transfer the funds after they left my account for fraud protection reasons.
So I "paid" for the van - as the money left my account; but the seller drove away without getting paid! Luckily he trusted me (and he knew where I lived!)
