... and I'll bet they are on the increase! Just in the last few years we have seen quite a few grass snakes around where we live where as we used to see none at all. Glad your okay.

usually a adder bite is no worse than a bad bee sting unless you are alergic and this same as a bee or wasp can cause anaphalactic shock .
consider yourself fortunate if you see one of these creatures as they are very hard to see , just enjoy them from a distance

And to think that we used to sleep out with just a bivibag on Kenfig.

theres loads in our wood and grass snakes but its not public access so both the snakes and the public should be safe:scared:

Hi Mandrake, glad your feeling better. A few years ago whilst working on the computer in the house, I looked down sensing something moveing. It was a four foot female Adder, or so I'm told. Apart from the hissing, the smell was quite pungent. This is what you get on a hot summers day with the doors open. So I done the only thing I could think of. Caught it in a large bag, and threw it over the neibours. (Never did like them after they threw a brick at me dog.) rgd's Graham.

That really is a cracking photo,it shows the features very clearly and i can only conclude that really is a bloody dreadful carpet.

Adder?

Tiderus, the Adder? in the photo looks an awful lot like a Grass Snake, Adders are not as long as 3' and are darker with a V pattern on the back.
The Grass snake also uses playing dead and issuing a stink from its anal glands as a defence.

yep thats a grass snake ,and the smell is SOMETHING ELSE adders are smaller

Thanks to you both for your reply. Not knowing much about snakes, friends said it was an adder. ( Maybe it was because it was singing one and one are two, two and two are four.) Sorry I couldn't resist that one). I am supprised that its a grass snake, because of its size. Some thirty years ago I had a similar snake dissapear into a hole in our surrounding old stone wall, kept well away from it since. Anyone got a picture of an Adder, so I can keep further away in future? Rgds' Graham.

Graham,That Snake slithering into a dark hole was probably the local politician, were you measuring Marigolds as well, or wearing them cos it was stinking
