Hello
I will soon need breakdown cover for my motorhome. Are there any members who use the services of the German company ADAC.
I've been on there web site and it says you have to be resident in Germany. How do you get round this? I would particularly like to here from members who have had to call them out to some remote place and what was there experience.

lot of people on sbmcc forum use them quite happily, they'll tell you how it's done

Hi, I am a member of the ADAC and they always send all documents (membership cards renewal notices, and monthly magazine) to my address in West Yorkshire.
So I cannot see any exclusion for not having an address in Germany. email stefanie.schleifer@adac.de with a request for further details.
I have called the uk 0800 number for breakdown assistance and the AA were the ones which responded.
I hope this helps
Colin

I've been using them for a few years now. Never needed to call them out thankfully. Annual renewal is a little bit of a faff each year but worth it I believe.

If you are not resident in Germany you cannot join through the website or pay directly with a CC. But you can email or speak to them (most speak English) to make the arrangements.

They are highly regarded and reliable according to many customers. And, yes, if you break down in the UK, the AA will be called by them to assist you!

Some of the other motorhome forums have Threads with many Posts on ADAC members experiences. I can honestly say they are given very good recommendation by nearly all. Don't take my word for it of course, have a gander.

The surprising thing is it's not expensive, more comprehensive and not as many get out clauses as the UK Breakdown organisations especially as regards larger M/homes.

Do I have it, errrr well no. But then again I have never had breakdown cover. I'll join up when I breakdown.
Be very interesting to see how easy/difficult you find it to sign up.

You have to sign up as a member to access info on SBMCC website, £15 I think.

off the top of my head i cant remember the package i have, but it means if i have a accident anywhere, they arrange to get my dogs back. the extras are very good.

not sure how it is value wise now, pound to eu. but few year ago, it was much cheaper than a UK company just for breaking down here, nay mind european cover as well.

oh, i called them out, but that was while i was in germany, and i knew the problem. diesel pump in english, is diesel pumpe in german lol.

I'm Australian and have been a member of ADAC Plus for several years. DO need an EU postal address though.

Had problem with the security code on the ignition keys being wiped due to a bad battery connection - in the middle of Morocco. They arranged a truck to come 150km to pick the MH up and take it to the nearest Ford agent - 150km. All for free. That would have paid for my annual fee for several years.

They also offer medical evacuation, return of MH etc etc - all for 76 (I think) Euro a year

I was a member for about 3 years. Never called them out. Cover is very good for the money, but watch out if you want to leave.

After taking out a new insurance that came with a good breakdown offer I told ADAC I would not be renewing for the next year.
They refused to accept this, saying I'd not given the requisite 3 months notice (I had, by letter and email).

Threatened all sorts of actions for over 9 months demanding money, letter after letter. Kept insisting I took out a temporary "silent membership" until I renewed again. I sent the magazine etc back to them each month saying I was no longer a member. Quite worrying, but I was bug***d if I was going to give them any more money for something I no longer needed.

They showed an extremely arrogant attitude. Would never go near them again.

thats the trouble with german law, its the same for fone, leccy co's etc

If it's that difficult to leave, I'd find it difficult to join. Just carry more tools, and drive like the coward I am.

i didnt have a problem when i left (as i wasnt to be travelling for over a year)

I'm a member but have never had to use them, easy enough to join over the phone. I think my renewal is €79.50. They cover the member not the vehicle, good for older vans where many of the breakdown services won't cover you.

We have had membership of ADAC for six months. Called them out once to a leaking fuel pump. AA responded within an hour to our home address (another myth broken) ADAC offer a great service at a very good cost with no van size or weight restrictions. Can't recommend them highly enough.

Hello
Thanks to all those who posted.

Hello,

Thanks for all the great info on the post, just to update I joined ADAC today only took 1/2 hour, I found this website ADAC.Breakdown Service. - Joys of Caravanning with a phone number for the head office, I ended up dealing with Barbara Rolland her number is 004994155673 she called me back and took my details, then called back 20 mins later with membership number, I paid with my VISA card.

Hope this is of help to others.

It is standard in Germany when you get into a contract, you need to give in writing if you wish to pull out, (normally 3 months on a yearly contract) The only time you can pull out earlier without giving it in writing, is if you have an accident, you can change your Insurance company immediately.

As mentioned earlier the member is covered not the vehicle. AA wouldn't cover my old VW but ADAC did. If I ever need their services in the UK, I think the AA turning up would help my sense of humour to recover.
The fee for me in the UK and Europe is €79.50
Also, my Wife is covered as an associate member for an extra 20 yoyos, which is for the full range of services I am offered.
