Those of you in Scotland will recognise the road from winter road reports as A939 Cockbridge to Tomintoul road is often closed due to snow. At the top of the route is the Lecht ski area. The route crosses county boundaries.

On Tuesday we had occasion to drive the whole length of the road and in my usual fashion I identified many possible overnight parking spots.

The best were on the said part between Tomintoul and Cockbridge, and there were 3 on the way up from Tomintoul to Lecht - off the road, level sites and two had picnic tables. There were anlther 2 or 3 good spots on the way down on the Aberdeenshire side. Along the whole route (from Nairn to Ballater) there must have been at least 20 possibilites, probably nearer 25+, some closer to the road than others and some less level. We saw no no overnight signs.

It is a spectacular route, narrow and in part (but only a small part) single track, with a variety of scenery - but a lot of open moorland. Apart from Grantown on Spey and Tomintoul there are no towns and you could easily pass through the villages without realising:)
