Has anyone ever placed an order with a1 discounts direct ltd and, if so, did you have any problems with the company?

We placed an order last month with next-day dispatch, received an automated acknowledgement but nothing further other than, eventually, a very brief email following many enquiries, confirming it had been sent.

The order hasn't arrived, the company doesn't respond to emails, text messages or answer the phone - and today there's an announcement that its answerphone message box is full.

We will be pursuing it under the Consumer Credit Act and sending a Letter Before Action within the next few days, but before I instigate proceedings against them, I wondered if I've just been unlucky or whether others have shared an equally bad experience...?

I called at our caravan local store two days ago, it had completely closed up and this was a hugh place, motor homes and service centre, caravan and spares. Buy only on credit cards to get your money back online there are to many closing!
 
It is a true sign of the times, for our business we spend around £3000 a month, mostly using bank transfer. But not any more, where possible its cash and if buying from abroad we use paypal (despite the fees) or cards, but even with cards you can end up in a long term dispute, weve been waiting since Nov 08 to recover £400 from a firm in China.
It does not matter if its a big or small firm,they are all dangerous to deal safely with at the moment.
 
so is any one near Nottingham who could go have a look to see if they are still trading? just a thought
 
Thanks - that would be good. I can see they are still trading on eBay but they have neither honoured our order (since cancelled under DSR due to non-receipt) or provided a refund. I will also contact Trading Standards in their area incase the company is known to them.

That must have been one of the 11 Discover Leisure branches that have closed recently.

Wise advice using credit cards, although whatever method of payment you use with us, we will never ever welch.

Yes it was Discover Leisure, Portsmouth, have they completely gone under or just closed certain branches, it must have been fairly quick!

It was the only one in the city, sad because we will have to rely on marine shops now, they are not the same!

Discover now have only 5 branches, all in the north of England. I understand they were only saved from going under by a last minute deal with Lloyds and RBS involving an agreement with unsecured creditors that they would get (eventually) 22% of what they were owed. I guess the creditors figured that 22% was better than could be expected if the company folded.

Like all postal services, you cannot touch or feel the items, I just bought a water tank off ebay and now need various items to fit it. Without looking at the items for real, it is diffircult to understand if it is the right thing for the job. That is why the loss of such places make matters more diffircult and of course the purchase is instaint, I shall review your offer though!

But of course if you need the part yesterday, always an issue!
 
Well if your really stuck and can phone before 1pm for heavy items and 3pm for post, we would get it on its way to you that day.

Plenty of technical knowledge and advice available.
