We are always looking for a free wild camp. My idea is any farmer to allow us to park in a corner of their field or entrance . Because farmers are having livestock and equipment stolen . If we have the farmers phone number we could be acting like a nightwatch man ,most of us have dogs who would alerts us through the night. Maybe someone out there could improve on this idea What does anyone think. I did think about putting the idea to the NFU. ??

It’s not just the farmer to consider,
There are planning laws and environmental issues with waste ,
We would love a piece of land to welcome wild campers as security for it,
Unfortunately you are only allowed to park on your own land for 28 consecutive nights or 60 nights a year

Thats why the travelers here buy houses now and rotate there vans every few weeks, think they have about 6 homes all within 3 streets from me.

With regards planning laws ,it would only be for 2 or 3 nights and 1 vehicle only ,and my excuse would be my engine was over heating . Any ideas who i could put the idea to.

No one would bother any farmer if he allowed a van or two hidden in the yard, big thing these days is insurance cover if someone had a accedent.
Hence fery few will let you stay.

This has been tried before Chris, and there's actually no reason why it shouldn't work BUT guess what? Farmers around here signed up for it, then stopped it because people staying abused it (shock, horror, probe) my office and warehouse were on a farm lovely place with a big hardstanding so he allowed 3 vans a night completely free (he's a caravaner himself) then when he had to clean up behind them he put in a gate and locked it.

Only ever stayed at one farm yard and it was a shyte hole, never did it again.

Maybe some don`t mind but i did having spent a lot of money IMHO on the motorhome i tried to keep it as clean as possible.

My imagined reply from NFU:

'Here at NFU, we welcome innovative suggestions; this is the first time any of us can recall replying 'NFU ...'

Regards.

NFU' :ROFLMAO:

Apart from the points raised by Andy & Janet, there are insurance risks in wildcampers acting as 'nightwatchmen' - who is liable if a volunteer is thumped by an iron bar or similar? What compensation, and from whom if the injury is serious enough to lead to loss of one's main employment?

We stay at a friends farm in Cambs and the way he gets round it we are seasonal workers and because we always have a eurotunnel booked he can prove we are not staying indefinitely

Still on his land without provable ins cover, esp if you did not bring your wellies and stink to high heavens. 😂

Luckily enough he runs a business from there that doesn’t involve wellies or sh** the insurance and seasonal workers permission is all sorted
In that case should be no problem.
Insurance these days and folk seeking big claims spoilt things, i remember as a kid farmers letting us ride our scramblers etc round there fields when empty, you have no mission these days.

Next time you're on a trip you could try phoning a few farmers ahead of time to see if you could stay.
Don't think they'd be keen on you parking in a field with stock in if you had dogs though.
I think it's a good idea but would need thinking through.
Years ago I did a trek on my horse and phoned farmers to ask for a field to camp in with horse and no one refused.
