a riddle

posts seem very quiet to-night so i'll tell you a wee story to keep your minds alert

I was driving, one day on the road to a small village
when I came to a fork in the road
there was no signpost telling me which way the village was
but at the fork sat two brothers
one on the left fork, and one on the right.
I asked directions and was told
one of us always tells the truth :) and one of us always tells a lie :mad:
but I was allowed only one question of one brother
to find the correct direction :confused:

what one question could I ask to put me on the right road?

if no-one figures it out i'll tell you tommorow!

definatly no clues lenny, there's a lot of brainy folk
on here who will figure it out

as a matter of interest there are two possible answers
one, I figured out myself. so get thinking. :D :D

Then listen to the answer his brother gives him,if he give you the same answer take the other road ,if it is not the same anwser take the road coz you have asked the lying one to ask the truthfull one (clear anough) ?

The question should be something like... "which way would your brother say is the right way"? ????


(And that would be the wrong way....... I think)

ok monkeynut, you've got the gist of it, and yes it would work

my answer is to ask one brother

"if i asked your brother ,the road to the village, what would his answer be?"

if it was the truthful brother, he would tell you the truth about a lie,
which is a lie :eek:
or if it was the lying brother, he would tell you a lie about the truth
which is also a lie :eek:
so whatever answer you get it must be a lie
then you take the other road
but top marks to you :D :D

I saw monkeynuts answer before i saw yours, :eek:
and you got it spot on "10 out of 10 "
im sure monkeynut wouldn't mind if he got moved into 2nd place
he was eavesdroping the brothers answer anyway :D :D
 
Why dont you just take the easy option .

Dont talk to either brother who frankly sound like country bumpkins and would use all their brain cell thinking about the answer and just drive up the road which takes your fancy .

If you take the wrong road find a quiet layby have a cup of tea a little nap and then go the other way .Giving the village idiots the churchill salute on the way back .

Then when you get to the village go online and tell all your friends about the nice wild camping spot you have just found

One fat northern Ba"%*rd in parliament is quite enough :):)
