Struggle to get it out. They have a machine that sticks to the window and pulls a nylon string through the glue thats holding the glass in place.

At least the cutouts for the wipers are on the right side. They actually have the wipers correct for Uk market.

Will it or won't it

After a lot of very careful pushing and pulling it finally sat in the right place.

Thanks to Autoglass who spent 4 hours taking everything apart and putting it all back together again. Have no idea how much it all cost as its all sorted with Insurance Company. £50 Excess to pay.

I watched them lifting the glass and had no idea how much it actually bends. The glass is about 10mm thick which is a lot thicker than car glass.

Looks like a professional setup I’ve got a nasty chipped screen had it repaired but think if it gets another dink close it will go completely I’ve been told that some A class windscreens can cost 3k wonder if auto glass use a specialised team of fitters for these type of jobs.

You don't really get the opportunity for second goes if you get it wrong with the
bonded screens as found on modern vehicles, a job probably best left to the
pro's. One more thing taken out of the DIYers hands.

I've taken out and refitted my windscreen 3 times over the years, haha no
not for fun! I estimated it's weight at 60Kg, I had someone help lift into place
once, and did the job solo twice, it did flex along the length a little. What made
it DIY possible was that it was a straight fit into the conventional rubber seal, ie no
bonding, so I could move and jiggle the screen to get it pushed into the aperture
as close in as possible then pulled the crossed string inside the van. Certainly not
as easy as I've found with much smaller car screens though!

Yes they do its called Autoglass Specials. All they do is glass repairs to anything other than cars. They do seem to have all the right kit to do the job. The lifter he was using was £14,000 a few years ago. Made it very easy to position a very heavy screen and get the side rubbers in place as it went in.

We also discussed what happened in Europe. They decided to get rid of the Specials side and leave it to the car side to do it but they are not interested because its specialist work. So it has now been left to the Dealers to sort out but they don't have all the kit thats needed. Autoglass Specials in the Uk make a profit now.

When it came to windscreens replacement you could save a bit of money on
removal of the old screen with certain Flair A classes, an emergency stop
had some of them ejecting the screen on to the road!
